Have documents checked / scanned in person?

My girlfriend has just received British citizenship and would like to apply for her first British passport. It says she has to send off her Italian passport, but she’s currently between the two countries and is travelling every couple of weeks. Is it possible to have her Italian passport / documents scanned in person, rather than her posting them away and then waiting so many weeks for them to be returned?
