Adult renewal. I will update when received. Holiday on July 14th, not hopeful, may have to pay to move dates (total cost £250)
Application being processed 9:06am on 15 May 2020
Documents received 1:22pm on 14 May 2020
Application received 7:26pm on 11 May 2020
Application submitted 7:25pm on 11 May 2020
Very odd processing time from the Durham office as of this morning (but very impressed!). This is for an adult renewal:
Application Approved: 10:49 28 May 2020
Documents Received: 10:49 28 May 2020
Application Received: 15:59 21 May 2020
Application Submitted: 15:59 21 May 2020
The note above it says that the passport is about to be printed. This definitely isn’t a usual timeline based on what I’ve seen on this forum. I have noticed that there was no “processing” step here, and I’m not convinced some overworked civil servant hasn’t pressed a wrong button.
Interesting because I submitted another application to Durham on 18 May and am now on the “application being processed” step (another adult renewal).
For now, I’m going to assume that they’ve just turned it around really quickly!
Hello - Application received 8th May
Old Passport + docs received 14th May
Being Processed 20th May
Have to leave Canada by 8 July, question has anyone applied for Emergency Docs, if so what happens if your passport is suddenly ready for commencing journey back to you in Canada and you are on way back to your country of residence (Mexico)? Seems GBP100 is a tad expensive!
BTW Good luck everyone!!
@CaboG , you could probably get the Emergency Travel Document at the High Commission in Ottawa or any of the consulates across Canada, and then call HMPO to have them change the delivery of your passport to you address in Mexico (I'm guessing Cabo, which is an amazing place).
Hi, no the Embassies are not involved with this anymore, I have the link for emergency docs, but loath to pay GBP100 , think probably will have to apply by 20th June and yes I live in Cabo and it is a lovely part of the world, although postal/DHL are not so good down there, would prefer to receive my passport in B.C.! Many thanks for your response!!

This was on online application using a photo I took myself. I was a little surprised that the application was assigned to Durham, as I'm in London. I notice it took a while for the old passport to be registered as received (I posted it recorded delivery an hour after completing the application but the status didn't change for 7 days), however the overall process was much faster than I expected, 12 days total turnaround including weekends and all postage.
For the record this was an adult renewal of a passport that expired at the end of last year. It was a non-urgent application, sent against the Covid-19 advice on the website because I have travel booked in September that may still go ahead (I was honest and selected 'existing passport needs to be renewed' as the reason for applying at this time rather than claim any urgency). My new passport is the new blue, non-EU design.
Good Morning from B.C. Canada, I just received this email from Passport Office Gov.UK:
"We are sorry that it is taking longer than usual to process your passport application due to Covid-19.
Please bear with us. If we require any information from you before a passport can be issued, we will contact you"
I will update as and when, my application was first acknowledged on 8th May, then confirmation being processed on 20th May, have to leave Canada on 8th July, so getting rather nervous!
Application approved 3:19pm on 15 June 2020
Documents received 8:59am on 15 June 2020
Application received 3:30pm on 5 June 2020
Application submitted 3:30pm on 5 June 2020
I sent the old passport on 5 June. Confirmed delivery by royal mail on 8 june. Took them a week to link the passport to the application!
Application submitted to Durham 03/06/20
Documents received 11/06/20 (tracked delivery indicated 05/06/20)
Application approved 11/06/20
Printed and sent 12/06/20
Passport received 15/06/20.
I was wary of submitting an adult renewal application at this time after reading all the posts. However, I'm more than impressed with the turnaround in my case although obviously accept this isn't the case for everyone. The passport received is burgundy but seems to include the additional security elements I've read about.
Child renewal received today (burgundy) - 31 days since application, 20 days from "application being processed". Better than I expected, considering that some human intervention (probably all of 5 seconds' worth) is required for child renewals.
@AndyR do you have a timeline please???
I’m feeling more positive about my application for a child renewal which I need ASAP for a holiday 19th July (hopeful!). I applied on 27th may and processing since 4th June but nothing since.

My online adult renewal went to Durham office
Process began 6/6. Passport received 19/6 by TNT
Old passport received today royal mail basic delivery
Was entered as a standard renewal not an urgent case
Recommend a signed for service for the following reason.
Took two weeks in total of which one week was
delayed by P O delivering and getting signature
and passport office not officially acknowledging receipt
but under current conditions no complaints.
Was kept updated by text regularly almost daily
Only text from T N T was to say my passports coming today
with a code to check tracking but didn't bother.
Overall was exceptionally happy as i had concerns I may not get it back in time for a holiday in mid-September.
Good luck everyone and stay safe
Well done the passport office
Yes its blue the icing on the cake
Hi folks,
I found this forum very useful and reassuring so I wanted to post. Needed to get my son's passport renewed to give us every possible chance of going away this summer, but hadn't realised how bad the delays were so I was cutting it fine - but I've had a great experience. Huge credit to the fab civil servants at the passport office!
I put it through (child renewal from UK) as non-urgent, and it was delivered two weeks after submitting. Arrived burgundy.

Hi Folks,
Found this website very useful. Here are my timelines - for a child renewal, using the standard service. I did ask the PO to get a signature on delivery. It took a week before they managed to link the two. Overall very happy so far and big credit to Durham.
Applied on 7th June
Document received on 9th June
Application process began on the 16th
Approval on the 24th June
Now just waiting for it to be delivered...fingers crossed (will post back when it arrives)
Hi. I applied for a first child passport on 20/06. Have sent off the docs to Durham and they arrived there on 23/06 (I know because of signed delivery). That is as far as I have got. Anyone have any inkling of how long I’ll be waiting till receive the passport? I’ll keep you all updated on the progress!
Applied 14th June
Documents received 22nd June (took 8 days for them to register this) Durham.
Appoved 23rd June
Posted 24th June
Hopefully receive in next two days.
We booked our holiday in January, I knew my passport expired in April but following the advice on HM Passport website I didn't apply for renewal, didn't think holiday would go ahead anyway at that point. When it looked like our holiday could be going ahead I applied fully expecting to not have a passport in time.
Amazed it has come through so quickly although it seems there are many not so lucky. I did a direct tweet to them asking them to confirm they had received my old passport, whuch was replied to within 24hrs - unsure if this may of helped.
Good luck to all!
