Applications whilst locked down

Due to the current situation the passport office has stated they are working with a skeleton staff. Therefore processing times are taking longer than normal. The date shown on our site is an average of the last 30 days so may include data from applications sent before lock down. Post your experiences here for applications made since lock down to give others an idea of current situation. Stay safe everyone.

I have now spoken to customer services, DM'd the Twitter account, emailed the Liverpool HMPO office with my travel docs to show I booked before Lockdown and also emailed my MP who has emailed the Home Office on my behalf. Everyone has told me they have escalated the case but nothing has happened as yet and no-one can promise me anything either. It's so frustrating when others have had their renewals go through quickly with no need for chasing yet they can't push mine through! 7 days to go before we fly... Even if it does get approved and posted tomorrow or Friday it may not get to us on time... My little girl is going to be devastated!

I received mine on the 13th July and this was my timeline from the passport tracker on https://www.gov.uk/track-passport-application. Application history Passport printed and sent 1:28pm on 9 July 2020 Application approved 9:24am on 8 July 2020 Documents received 3:06pm on 7 July 2020 Application received 5:13pm on 24 June 2020 Application submitted 5:13pm on 24 June 2020 I did my renewal application through the post office to guarantee my picture would be accepted. It was super easy. They do the application for you and send your documents as well.

Update on my application. Posted on the 6th of July (paper form via post office) got a text this morning saying they've received it. So from reading others looks like it's taking them about 10 days to get it on the system. (Peterborough)

My Passport should be arriving today via TNT, I received a text from them this morning at 8am. I have to say my experience has been really good, from submitting my online application to (Hopefully) receiving it today, it has only taken 10 days. I was expecting it to take 3 months!!
GeorginaSJS
Does anyone know if you get a text per application or just one for all? As I made two applications for my children and just received one text?
Newgirl
@GeorginaSJS you should be able to go online and track both your applications there with your reference number

Great news James! Thank you again for your helpful advice :-) I am still waiting for the call from the specialist team to expedite my application but being on this forum has assuaged some of my worries, as I could get some sense of the process. All the best to you and your family!

I received mine today, the 16th of July. My application was pretty quick and I didn't do anything special like phoning the complaints line as others have done, hopefully this means that wait times are back to normal now. I did the entire application on line, so maybe that's the quickest way? Did you receive any tracking info from TNT? My passport was printed yesterday so I am hoping it will be here tomorrow as our flight is on Sunday! I haven't heard anything from TNT yet though.
leanne11
I didn't recieve any tracking info from TNT. The new passport was posted through the letterbox on 8th july 2 days after I recieved the email to say it had been sent by secure delivery. Fingers crossed you recieve yours tomorrow.

Hi. My email said passport posted 13th July but still not received it! Old passport came back today though. Do people normally receive their old passports before new one? Slight panic as away on 10th August.
tigmusic
@cesrabbit we got our daughter’s old passport back the day before we received the new one. You should get it any day. Was 4 days after showing as printed and posted for us

Thanks for all your replies. I received it this afternoon! Delighted. So a 22 day process from start to finish. Online application. Child (16 year old) renewal. Lovely blue one too. And 5 photos printed inside! Very decorative. Very pleased with service from Durham. Thank you Happy Holidays everyone!

Has anyone had their passport approved on a Saturday? Living in hope!
sprajax1
Looking back through everyone’s timeline I don’t think there has been any approvals on Saturday - although I could be wrong however, also living in hope!!! Anxious and frustrated but also trying to get through the weekend without thinking about it although it’s super hard!!!
cesrabbit
When did you apply? They definitely seem to be speeding up. Mine was 22 days to receive through letterbox with no urgency. You can dm them with your flight dates to try and expedite your application.
sprajax1
Applied on the 28th for adult renewal (Glasgow) and child renewal (Durham)- Both stuck at ‘application processing’ for over a week now. Will call again next week to see if they can move things along although hoping i don’t have to chase them and they just move it along as that is painful in itself! Travelling mid August, however, just don’t want to receive them last minute! Far too stressful!
jamesd1974
2 of mine were approved printed and sent last Saturday
