Due to the current situation the passport office has stated they are working with a skeleton staff. Therefore processing times are taking longer than normal. The date shown on our site is an average of the last 30 days so may include data from applications sent before lock down.
Post your experiences here for applications made since lock down to give others an idea of current situation.
Stay safe everyone.

Glasgow a total shambles.
Child renewal done 29th may
Document received 5th June
Processing since then.
Spoke to family member who works for DWP said all passport office staff in Glasgow bar a dozen or so are moved over to process universal credit claims until 30th June.
Spoke to guy last week in Glasgow said “it should be printed any day but you shouldn’t have booked a holiday” thing was booked and paid for since February after a decent win!
Go away 5 weeks today giving up hope of going now and will have to allow the mrs and the family to go and me and my son will need to stay in the UK
My passport has just arrived through the letterbox. Progress details below, took exactly 3 months from start to finish. I chased it on 15th June and requested a call back from the progress team which I didn't receive, but the day after the application was approved.
I didn't get any tracking details, passport office said couriers are collecting twice per week. I didn't see which company delivered it but it's either TNT or DX. Haven't received old passport yet, but assuming that will come via Royal Mail.

Apologies, I just re-read my post and of course it was 2 months from start to finish, not 3.
Update from us. As others have suggested, we got an email today saying that my other half's passport has been printed and is on its way - the next working day after approval. Sounds like we have been very lucky (provided it turns up!!!) Our friends (who we are supposed to be travelling with on 18th July - holiday balance due a week today) who applied maybe a week before us but for a child renewal haven't been so lucky - theirs is still "processing". It does just seem to be a total lottery but kids ones are taking a whole lot longer......

I don't yet have the passport in hand but I was expecting a much longer wait given what I read on here.
Two weeks from submission to approval. Child first passport. Sent to Newport.

Has Anyone applied by paper form??? Those are the ones that are not coming!
If you applied online dont worry because it will come, paper form applicants have applied months ago and havent been told anything whereas online applicants are getting theirs within 10 days. Its mad
I applied online 4 weeks ago (on weds) and still not been approved. Applied to Durham. Think I may go mad, it’s all I can think about/ chase up as our holiday is on 19th July.
Really don’t know why child renewals are taking longer surely if it’s a renewal it’s a straight forward hit.
1 or both parents have passports.
Child has existing passport
Child under age 12 has had passport verified by an independent person
Surely you would just get them done and out!
Total lottery. As I said in other thread apparently Glasgow will be getting their passport staff back from the DWP Universal credit processing on 1st July 2020
How do people know which office is dealing with their application? We applied for 3 child renewals on the 24th May, have had 2 back but one still says ‘processing’. I have tried chasing as we should be flying on the 17th July, but no luck. Need to pay the balance this week and don’t know what to do. Thought maybe I could contact the office dealing with it, but can’t find that.
So my partner applied for a passport renewal and my sons first passport through the post office . We had a text to say passports received of the 28th of may and passports being processed on the 2and of June . I have chased it up for the last 2 weeks and been on the phone the passport advice and nothing has changed. Both are in the Durham office just to add . We meet to be going away on the 11th of July and I spoke to the passport advice line again today and was basically told if your passports haven’t changed by the 1st of July then forget the holiday which is a real kicker . I’m crossing my fingers and toes it all happens last minute but I don’t no anymore. What do you think are chances are that we actually get to go ? I like to see what other people think
It should be on the email or text telling you where to send your documents. If you ring the helpline, ask for a callback for the progress team. You're supposed to get a call within 48 hours. I didn't get called back but the day after my passport was approved and I got it back today.
Thank you.
Still waiting despite more calls and twitter interactions! Way over 100 days now :(

I have given up now.
Its 105 days today, first passport after naturalisation – Liverpool office.
Contacted them via phone, twitter, email no vain, they just fob you off.
@JaMoUsE My original photo was rejected. I resent once I got a 'good' rating on the website. I think that if they don't come back to you with 48 hours the photo is OK (that's what customer service told me). It took another 2 weeks for the passport to be approved. Have you asked the call centre for a callback from the progress team? I didn't get one, but the application was approved the day after, might have been a coincidence but the passport arrived yesterday.
I submitted a paper renewal with name change via the post office check and send service on the 21st May. I received a text on the 1st June to say it has been received but then nothing.
I have just received a text today 23rd June to say I should receive my new passport in the next few days.
I am just outside Manchester but I am not sure which passport office processed the application.
This might give hope to the people waiting for paper applications and name changes!
i have had 2 callbacks but both updates were just generalisations 'we're extremely busy' etc.
Since its been 10 days, hopefully its been accepted this time then and i get the passport. The woman was lecturing me about booking holidays without having a passport in hand, silly me assumed 6 months was more than enough time!
Anyone know what moved into examination means? How long does examination take? Because i havent seen anyone write about that. Mine was moved to examination 22nd june. Hoping now
How have they fobbed you off? What have they said?
I am one of the extremely lucky ones. Passport expires in a few days. Going on holiday 15th July but didn't think i would be going to used money on doing my garden up.
With covid restrictions lifting I thought what if.... So did my application late at night online (last week) Monday 15th June and posted passport next day recorded next day delivery.
Application Submited - 15th June
Documents Received - 22nd June
Application Approved- 23rd June
All at Durham Office. Looks like they should print and send passport next day so should get it soon.
Very thankful saying my prayers to the passport gods and hope that everyone else gets their passports on time for their holidays.
18 DAYS FROM START TO FINISH!!
This is for a child renewal, online application, digital photo. Peterborough office.

The person confirming the phot took 3 days to do it and I didn’t send the passport off until they had done that which I sent on the 9th and it was received (but not processed) on the 10th. So really it has only taken 2 weeks which I am so chuffed with. We have a holiday booked on 28/07 and I was a bit worried I’d left it too late. I was also worried about the photo because there was a very faint shadow by her hair but it all went through fine, just in case anyone is worried about their photo.
I found this forum was an absolute godsend when I needed a bit of reassurance. So happy to post in here now to hopefully give some others a ray of hope. Now if the holiday doesn’t happen it won’t be my fault at least!
🤞🏻 GOOD LUCK WITH ALL YOUR PASSPORTS GUYS 🤞🏻
👍thanks
@9984Sarah
They just said we’ve checked your application and it has been moved to examination on the 22nd june
Hi, did anyone find out what it meant to be moved to examination?
Also, has anyone had experience of an adult renewal with a second name change at Newport office at all??
After several conversations with HMPO staff, ‘Examination’ is just a fancy word for ‘in the queue waiting to be looked at’.
Mine is stuck at ‘Examination’ stage since 02/06/2020.
Application started: 10/03/2020
Delivered: 11/03/2020
Processing started: 16/03/2020
‘Examination’: 02/06/2020
