Due to the current situation the passport office has stated they are working with a skeleton staff. Therefore processing times are taking longer than normal. The date shown on our site is an average of the last 30 days so may include data from applications sent before lock down.

What office was that @jh203
It was Durham
Has anyone had any joy with a child renewal at the Newport office? I sent old documents to Peterborough but have just been told the application is with the Newport office. I’m desperate, our holiday is 18th July and I applied online 23rd May, in processing since 3rd June.
We are in a similar situation. Applied 27th, went to processing 4th June and that’s where it’s stayed. I have chased it up via Twitter a few times.
That’s great for you. But just fuels my frustration. I applied to Durham for standard child renewal 27th may, went to processing 4th June. It hasn’t moved since then. They can’t have any sort of system based on the evidence I’m seeing!!
@9984sarah I am the same at Glasgow applied 29/5/20 been sitting a processing since 5th June.
If our holiday goes ahead this could be the reason we can’t go!!
Hi,
I submitted the application for passport last thursday and yesterday I received an email saying that the process is taking longer than usual due to COVID ... Have all of you received the same email?. I've already submitted all documents just waiting for the status change on letter received, reading all your post is likely to refresh tomorrow (7 days). I assume you all have as seems as an automated email but just wanted to check
Thank you
@SimonS I had made my daughters New Child Application on the same day you submitted yours, on the 18th I sent the documents as first class and they were received on the 19th, yesterday I received the generic email mentioning the delays. Today I received a text and email saying they have received my documents. They usually process your documents 6 days after they receive them for Durham at the moment.

This whole thing is a nightmare, there are going to be loads of people now not getting their holidays and loosing thousands of pounds. It is so frustrating. No rhyme nor reason. My friends daughters went to Durham same time as me, we are going on holiday together with our families. She is still stuck in processing. Mine went to Peterbourgh, I am stuck in processing too! Agh!!!!

@tildy what office?
Yeah it had a tick next to it! but in the small print it does say thats not a guarentee of the photo being acceptable its just a guide!
Yeah its beyond a joke. If i cant get it in time for my holiday next month i'll be writing to my MP. Some people are getting new passports in a week!
Was going to say that get the MP involved one thing the government departments don’t like is a MP enquiry letter
Hi Yasmine,
Thanks a lot for your reply! Great to hear it's the same email then. Fingers crossed I also get a text soon confirming docs arrival. Good luck!
Well you probably couldn’t make this up!
Got a text at 12.15 today to say passport finally approved. 5 minutes later an email from you to say holiday cancelled.

Overall 11 weeks and 2 days.
Child online renewal sent to Peterborough 3rd April. Chased on Twitter to no avail. Finally received ( after a little press intervention- thank you Mr Calder) on June 24th. Completely unnecessary delay considering others are receiving their within 2 weeks. No information and no transparency. The system seems to be a shambles - I was asked to pay extra money and after finding someone to take the money ( not easy because those working from home couldn’t do this) I was then phoned the next day and asked to pay again??!! Glad it’s all over......82 days 😕
Just spoke to a mate who is a lawyer the passport office has applied English law for parental responsibility and they should have applied Scots law so the need for me to provide a letter from the mother and a birth certificate is erroneous and misguided!
Need to phone them again to point this out.
Under Scots law a father has parental responsibility if named on the birth certificate which they admit they still have since 2015!
We managed to re-arrange the holiday for the day before (18th) July, as they only cancelled as the flights were cancelled. 🙏
