Applications whilst locked down

Due to the current situation the passport office has stated they are working with a skeleton staff. Therefore processing times are taking longer than normal. The date shown on our site is an average of the last 30 days so may include data from applications sent before lock down. Post your experiences here for applications made since lock down to give others an idea of current situation. Stay safe everyone.

Good Morning Just thought you would like to know my "progress" so far. Adult Male, renewing an expired passport (Expired January 2020) Monday 6th July 2020 - Had digital photo taken, and received code, application filled in online Monday PM, and also old Passport sent back. Email received confirming payment, and requesting old passport to be sent back. Tuesday 7th July 2020 - Second email received requesting that I send my old passport back Wednesday 8th July 2020 - Nothing Thursday 9th July 2020 - Nothing Friday 10th July 2020 - 0930 Text and email confirming that they had received my old passport, immediately followed by a second email and text saying "Application approved, your new passport is being printed" So it looks like I could have my passport within the next couple of weeks?

Hi all First time post and just as frustrated as most as I seem to be on the slower side of the Durham service. Problem I have is I go away beginning of August, but my son was born in May but couldn't register him until almost end of June! Literally got his birth certificate and went straight to the post office and paid nearly £7 for next day delivery! Here's how my progression has gone so far. First child passport Documents received 10:34am on 9 July 2020 Application received 8:13pm on 25 June 2020 Identity details received 8:13pm on 25 June 2020 Email sent to person confirming your identity 7:50pm on 25 June 2020 Ask someone to confirm your identity 11:23am on 25 June 2020 Application submitted 11:23am on 25 June 2020

Well after a hour or so on the phone to complaints yesterday 2 have now been prossessed today and sent other 2 hopefully in Next few days so it does help calling them but unless it’s been over 24 days they won’t even put you through to them

I have found reading accounts very helpful and so wanted to share my own experience and wait time. Adult renewal Monday 6th June - Application submitted Monday 6th June - Application received Tuesday 7th June - Sent old passport (by courier with same day delivery, delivered to Durham at 12:15) Wednesday 8th June - Text received "Remember to send your old passport to..." (even though the passport was already at their Durham office) Thursday 9th June - Nothing Friday 10th June - Nothing I will update tomorrow.

@Mattw11 This seems incredibly fast, can I ask what office you sent your old passport to?
Mattw11
Morning I sent my old passport back to Glasgow office as per their request.....
RLM
Thanks for the info @Mattw11, mine is at Durham which seems to be slower.

How long did people wait from approval to printing? My son's was approved Friday. 19 days to travel so I am hoping we should be ok although I have seen people get stuck at different stages.

Hello, I have been reading all of your progress and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you all. We are meant to be flying out for our honeymoon in 9 days and we have been on “we’ve received your old passport” for a week now 😭 I’ve emailed, rang, contacted twitter team but so far nothing :(.
jamesd1974
We after speaking to complaints on Friday 2 were approved Saturday and 1 today only 1 more to go getting happier
jamesd1974
Laura123 mine were approved and printed with a hour
jamesd1974
Rlm I sent mine to Durham and they then sent them to Liverpool as were too busy
laura123
Thank you. Ours was done at nearly 7pm Friday evening. Praying it will be printed today or tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Although I've seen a few stuck at this stage so it makes me worrying. I don't think I will stop worrying until I get the passport in my hand. It's awful isn't it as I don't want to even buy anything for the holiday yet in case I don't get it and waste more money. It's hard to know what to do for the best but I will certainly be rushing once it's here!!

Jamesd1974 if you don’t mind me asking, did you have special circumstances that the complaints team took into consideration? I’m waiting for a call back from complaints but the girl I spoke to this morning said they are unlikely to do anything to help as it is ‘just a holiday’ (despite me explaining that it was booked last September and we can’t reschedule).
jamesd1974
I explained that it was booked last year and I had to email them proof that it was which I did on Friday since then 2 were approved Saturday and sent and the other 2 have today been approved and sent
jamesd1974
And keep calling and ask to be put through as I never got a call back when I first asked

Jamesd1974 thank you very much for the advice 👍🏻

Jamesd1974, could you please give me the email address you used to send your support docs? Thank you!
jamesd1974
You have to speak to complaints first as they then send you a email with reference number on it and you have to reply to that with the proof
jamesd1974
Last one approved today thank god so after speaking to complaints on Friday all have been approved since 2 Saturday and 2 today printed and sent
nk8366
Thank you! Presumably you are put through Complaints once you get to speak to someone on 0300 222 0000? I am still waiting for the callback and keep calling trying to get through...
jamesd1974
Yes that’s the one I found around 9 am in the morning is quiet plus complaints don’t open till 9
Mattw11
It's really awful to hear of the delays and problems that some of you are having, I did however promise an update on my application. I completed my online application a week yesterday, and I have now had an email (Last night) saying that it is in the post..... (well has been sent by secure delivery) So I can expect to receive it Today or tomorrow. I hope that others have some good luck too.
