Nope, still just waiting. I contacted my MP from before I moved abroad and they've sent a note on my behalf but I've heard nothing from HM Passport Office

Have you contacted HMPO via Twitter/phone/complaints at all?

Via Twitter and phone, I've not put a complaint in though. They haven't been able to tell me anything so far.

Thanks @carriehall - I would appreciate if you posted your updates in this thread as I'll be keeping an eye on it. I am about 5 weeks behind you in timeline with the same type of application and same passport office. I'll update also.

5 weeks doesn't sound too bad, you should be. We are meant to be going away in 12 days now and I'm losing hope. Everything moving so slowly. 2 weeks from sending the birth certificate first class to them updating the status to documents received. 1 week to mark the Application as being processed. 10 days on and it's still being processed. Not sure what there is to process for an infant's first passport for so long. It should be quite quick.

Can someone please tell me how long it took for the supporting docs to be returned? Also, how are these sent back (Royal Mail?, TNT?)? They contain my passport which I need for travel on Thurs :( Many thanks

My husband called to make a complaint yesterday and spoke to a very rude member of staff who said that he couldn't complain because "nowhere on the application did it say a timescale" even though my husband said he wanted to complain in general about the lack of information. He mentioned that applications from abroad are slower, which is the first we'd heard of that and he couldn't tell us why. We asked if we could add travel dates and he said it wouldn't make a difference. The only positive thing was that he said the application had been assigned to a team yesterday (it's been "processing" since 15th June) and is now in a queue. He also mentioned that the three week average time normally starts from the point it is assigned to someone so we could still be weeks away.

Application History Application received 10 July 20 July - rang passport office, explained that flight was booked in January. Asked for application to be escalated. Documents received 22 July Application being processed 23 July Application approved 23 July Passport printed and sent 23 July Passport received 28 July We have to say, the passport office have taken a load of stick recently but we are chuffed with the response and service we received. It arrived today! It's blue.. We had to provide some missing supporting documents, so it was delayed slightly longer. We got a direct person to send those documents too though, which meant it was only delayed by a week. Was really not optimistic about getting my newborn son’s passport in time for our planned holiday at the end of September but was really pleasantly surprised how quick the Durham office dealt with it! 16 days from applying to receiving it. We had no special circumstances- didn’t make any complaints and didn’t have anything booked to make them fast track it. Over the moon! Only a bit sad the new passports are black and my son wont have a burgundy one like his mam and dad! I submitted ours on the 15th July and it has been at processing since the 22nd for a baby's first passport and being dealt with by Belfast as that is where the documents went. Looks like ours is stuck in a pile and we are hoping to travel next week.

Thanks @carriehall for providing your update. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Out of interest, how did they request the additional documents? Was it via email or via the online tracking?

@ricksrod They sent me an email with a letter attached as PDF, which had the list of additional documents I needed to send along with the specific person who was dealing with the claim so it would go straight to them.

Finally approved 4th September. Processing since 17th July. @carriehall - was yours sent via DHL and did you get tracking information?

@ricksrod Yeah, we got DHL tracking information for the passport as well as the supporting documents. The supporting docs have only just come through though
