Child's renewal

I applied for a child's renewal online on the 23rd May, text on 29th May to say expired passport received by Peterborough Office. Status has been 'processing' since 3rd June. Phoned the office yesterday to chase and was advised that all documents were sent and received by the Newport office on 3rd June as minimal staff at Peterborough (if this is the case why did they specify documents to go to Peterborough?). Holiday which we thought would be cancelled is now going ahead as planned on 18th July and looking less and less likely I will the receive the passport by then. Son turns 16 on 28th July, chances are we will miss the holiday (no refund will apply) and I will be contacted after the 28th to ask for additional fees to cover an adults passport and to complete a new application - when I asked this question yesterday; frustratingly, I was just advised 'yes this is a possibility'.

I hope so it’s straight forward renewal both me and the mum have passports as well so not hard for them really and they look the same in the pics as well
jamesd1974
Did that include a weekend or work days thanks again
Tracey1978
It was signed for on 23rd June and they acknowledged receipt yesterday (1st july)

My daughter's was signed for on 24th June and they acknowledged on 26th June. It was approved on 1st July so didn't take long at all. There doesn't seem to be any logic on the order of processing applications?
jamesd1974
No there don’t was it the same office they both went to as I had to send 2 to Durham 1 to Glasgow and 1 to peterbough
Tracey1978
Yes both were sent to Peterborough.

New Passport received today - very relieved!

So I finally received my sons passport after so much anxiety the past couple of weeks. I sent the old one to Peterborough as requested and they then sent it to Newport to process, this is normal if a passport office has less staff etc. I chased 3/4 times on twitter, called about 4 times to the same response. I then emailed our MP last Friday and got a response within the hour to say they will look into it and even got a nice formal letter on the action taken. Monday I called and asked to be put through to the complaint department and was put through to a lovely lady who said she can see my date of travel and she will send a message to the Newport office to explain of the urgency and how anxious I am. An hour or so later I received the approved message! I don’t know if it was coincidence, my call, the MP, twitter message but I was so relieved! Passport received 3rd July (blue!) Passport printed and sent 8:51am on 1 July 2020 Application approved 11:42am on 29 June 2020 Application being processed 12:56pm on 3 June 2020 Documents received 10:29am on 29 May 2020 Application received 8:04pm on 23 May 2020 Identity details received 8:04pm on 23 May 2020 Email sent to person confirming your identity 2:01pm on 23 May 2020 Ask someone to confirm your identity 1:50pm on 23 May 2020

How long did it take for you all to get a response on twitter? I presume you sent a DM?

Update to where I am. Royal Mail delivered the old passport on Monday 29th June. I called the Passport Office on Friday and I got a call back yesterday. They told me the mail room was taking 2 weeks to process and put old documents onto the system.Couldn't in any way put a note on our application of travel date the only way to speed anything up was if your travel is for an emergency or bereavement. They didn't even ask for my reference number so I think these are just how it is at the moment. Also DM on twitter Friday but no reply. All hope lost, travel plans are looking likely to be cancelled. Then had an email this morning saying they have recieved old documents. That was 6 days after receiving them. So I am now a little more hopeful of making it on 1st Aug. The roller coaster ride that is passport applications. Application history (Durham) Documents received 8:16am on 5 July 2020 Application received 10:38am on 26 June 2020 Identity details received 10:37am on 26 June 2020 Email sent to person confirming your identity 10:23am on 26 June 2020 Ask someone to confirm your identity 10:14am on 26 June 2020 Application submitted 10:14am on 26 June 2020

Does anyone know if the passport process passports through the weekend to? We applied 4th July and will send old passport first thing tomorrow morning. Been asked to send old passport to Durham office. We’re due to go on holiday 9th August.
LauraW
I got a text yesterday to say ours has been approved. I didn't get a reply to my DM on twitter, and I don't know if it was coincidence that it was approved 48hrs after I contacted them. Fingers crossed it arrives this week.
jamesd1974
Lauraw did u actually get a text to say they received your documents before being approved

Me and 2 friends all sent off for passports and children’s passports at the same time, 7 passports in total, 2 is first child, the rest is renewals. We have had all back including a child’s first passport in 5 weeks except the 3 that were sent to Peterborough and took 3 weeks to even hit processing stage... still we wait
jamesd1974
yasminrita it’s taken 2 odd weeks to even confirm they have received old ones August will be a bit tight by the looks of it especially if you not sent old ones off yet I sent mine off nearly 2 weeks ago and not even say they got them yet

Update on my child renewal Send to Peterborough Had a text at 6:30 on 2nd July to say they received the old passport - so well over 7 days from Royal Mail showing as signed for Finally he a call back on Friday 3rd also 3 days age tee requesting - the phone call came from the Newport office but I didn’t get into conversation with them as I’d received the text to say they had the old passport. I know the passport online application is now saying don’t apply for a passport unless you’re travelling before September 2020 - which has recently been added

Hi, We are supposed to be travelling at the end of the month and really concerned passport still stuck in processing despite starting application 3rd June. I understand a number of you had progress from emailing you MP. Would anyone be willing to share the content of their email? Many thanks Laura
LauraW
@jamesd1974 yes I got a text 17th June to confirm the old passport had been recieved by them which was a couple of days after we applied and posted it.
LauraW
@ljem I didn't speak to my MP but I did send them a direct message on twitter. Although I didn't get a response, I had the passport approved 2 days later. This is what I sent them on 2nd July : Hello, we have submitted our daughters renewal which has been marked as 'application being processed' since 19th June. We are due to travel to Spain to visit family on 23rd July, is it likely her passport would be approved by this date or do I need to look at cancelling our flights and accommodation? Ref ########### Thank you.
jamesd1974
Really is a joke sent 4 renewals off on 25th signed for on the 26th to Durham Glasgow and peterbough and None showing as received yet twitter waste of time even after this long only response I get is it’s taken longer than normal seriously when others after me have there’s done and dusted

Does any one know what it means when the passport has been sent for printing? I sent my sons renewal off 29th May ( paper application) had a text to say it was received 01st June. I’ve emailed and received two separate replies, one saying it was received 01st June at Durham and the other saying it was received 01st June at Peterborough and has been sent for printing. I’m a little confused at to where it actually is and what sent for printing means?
