I applied for a child's renewal online on the 23rd May, text on 29th May to say expired passport received by Peterborough Office. Status has been 'processing' since 3rd June. Phoned the office yesterday to chase and was advised that all documents were sent and received by the Newport office on 3rd June as minimal staff at Peterborough (if this is the case why did they specify documents to go to Peterborough?). Holiday which we thought would be cancelled is now going ahead as planned on 18th July and looking less and less likely I will the receive the passport by then. Son turns 16 on 28th July, chances are we will miss the holiday (no refund will apply) and I will be contacted after the 28th to ask for additional fees to cover an adults passport and to complete a new application - when I asked this question yesterday; frustratingly, I was just advised 'yes this is a possibility'.

Documents sent to Peterborough. I am yet to receive the passport but have missed something from Royal Mail today, was unsure if they are still using TNT or now using Royal mail?

I have read that it is taking up to 14 days to acknowledge documents have been received.

@lauraW I sent 2 DMs on Twitter to passport office and no response. Got my call back from them this evening and was the exact same status as I saw online and was told they couldn't add a travel date to my notes. Emailed my MP today as well and as yet am yet to hear a response. We are due to leave on 28th July and I am really panicking at the lack of response or progression of the process. We need the passport number before we travel to get approval from Croatia to enter. I'm at my wits end!

I rung passport office and as soon as I said I paid for the holiday a year ago and couldn’t look into the future to know what was going to happen with COVID-19 her attitude changed and added my travel dates to all my applications and within 2 hours had one message saying one is received just 3 to go now and this is just them confirming they received the old passport
Is anyone still waiting for a child renewal that’s been processing since 10th June?
This is our timeline so far:

Documents received - 5th June
Application being processed - 10th June
I contacted them via Twitter a couple of weeks ago and they added our date of travel (31st July) onto our application but nothing since.
If I don’t hear by Thursday I’ll be writing to my MP. It’s just worrying when there’s no logical order to the clearing of the backlog and new applications seem to breeze through! If we don’t get it back we lose a 3k holiday..

Don’t presume mate don’t wait I have already and I only applied on the 26th June as they hadn’t even said they had received so far but they have now 1 of them 3 to go
@jamesd1974 I couldn't get through on the phone today, was forced to leave my number for a call back which took 9 hours to get! At which point he just recited everything that I already knew back to me and point blank refused to add travel dates. I will try again in the morning. We also booked this trip before Covid- didn't seem to mean anything to him though....

I just wanted to say to try call and ask to speak to the complaint department. I did this after also emailing my MP, I explained to the lady how anxious I was and how it was affecting me mentally with worry. She said she would get a message over to the office dealing with it and explain what I told her and note the date of travel again (was already on there from twitter dm). She also said she would mention that I was making a complaint.
1 hour later my application was approved. I have no idea if it was the MP, the complaint department or twitter or a coincidence.
Keep calling, messaging etc, you’ll get there.

@MrsM1982 just called again, guy was really grumpy and said no point in putting travel date on as it wouldnt help me. Has anyone else been getting total obstruction from the passport office?! Literally feel like I'm out of ideas now
@Ljem don’t give up, I would call again, ask to be put straight through to complaints, tell them you were advised by someone else on Saturday to call back and ask to be put through to complaints. That’s what I said as the complaints team don’t work at the weekend and they put me through (wasn’t going to at first)
Keep DM on twitter, keep calling till you get someone who will listen, i was exactly the same.
Twitter seem to be able to put your travel date on there.
The complaints team can see that but general enquiries just see the processing bit, they also told me my photo looked fine.
I submitted my application for a child renewal on 3rd June(Durham) and it was approved yesterday after processing since 12th June. I have called several times and tweeted(DMs) each time providing my travel date, be persistent it will work. I contacted my MP also who has raised with the CEx of the passport office as it is a dire situation for some - good luck
They really need to get on top of the backlog in a more consistent manner. There’s just no logic to it, they should either prioritise by date of travel or by date submitted. I assume they would normally do them in order submitted?
@pipine. I agree. I don’t see how they can say only to apply for a passport if you are a government worker or it is needed for compassionate grounds when they open up air bridges. Apparently travel before September has been added but they are not taking departure dates so how do they know this.
For our daughters renewal it was a huge oversight on our part, however for a government agency I would expect their systems to be much better than they are for processing etc.
Sent my daughters renewel onljne on 24tb june. Sent support docs on 26th which have been signed for on 30th june. Since then I have heard nothing were due to fly on 30th august which I know is 7 weeks away but if it doesnt arrive then none of our family can travel as we cant leave her on her own . Has any one recieved their in a good time frame. My documents were sent to Durham office .
