Child's renewal

I applied for a child's renewal online on the 23rd May, text on 29th May to say expired passport received by Peterborough Office. Status has been 'processing' since 3rd June. Phoned the office yesterday to chase and was advised that all documents were sent and received by the Newport office on 3rd June as minimal staff at Peterborough (if this is the case why did they specify documents to go to Peterborough?). Holiday which we thought would be cancelled is now going ahead as planned on 18th July and looking less and less likely I will the receive the passport by then. Son turns 16 on 28th July, chances are we will miss the holiday (no refund will apply) and I will be contacted after the 28th to ask for additional fees to cover an adults passport and to complete a new application - when I asked this question yesterday; frustratingly, I was just advised 'yes this is a possibility'.

I've had an email to say my son's renewal is being dealt with at Liverpool now, despite sending the documents to Durham. Then I've had another email as follows:- We are sorry that it is taking longer than usual to process your application due to COVID-19. If we don’t need any further information to progress your application, you should receive your passport within 4 weeks. I fly in 3 weeks so that is no good! I was getting replies on Twitter but now I'm not. I've provided proof of the holiday and other than waiting a week, until we are in the 2 week urgency period, I don't know what else to do. If they check the application and the photo is not good enough, are you able to send another urgently and them check it on the day or does the process start again? I'm so worried. It certainly takes the excitement of going on holiday, away.

You can ask it to be escalated when within 2 weeks of travel they won’t u TIL then but once your within 2 weeks they will issue it within 5 days
jamesd1974
Ref photo if they reject u send another and if that’s ok usually it will go to passport issued within a day as the photo is the last stage and no it didn’t start the application again

Hi all, has anyone done a recent (past 2 weeks) renewal application online which has been sent to Durham. Noticed a few posts on here saying that it has taken a couple of weeks for them to 'receive' the passport. We sent ours via special delivery on Monday (27th), was signed for yesterday (28th) but nothing appears on the application site. Any rough ideas on total time would be amazing as we are due to head to France in just over 3 weeks...yikes! Thanks

Mine took 16 days to go on the system

Leave it a week and call them as if within 14 days of travel they will express it through within 5 days

I'm so happy... it's been approved on Friday. How long for printing and posting? Thank you.

Newport are infinitely slower than Peterborough. A couple of things two weeks before travel is one of the triggers but you also need the application to be on the system for 4 weeks since applying. We are 9 days from travel one went to Peterborough and was delivered today the other Newport is “being processed” can’t get an escalation until Thursday because we didn’t apply until July 9th. Personally think the holiday is now off because a) we applied too late b) Newport office is extremely extremely slow and is performing very badly compared with Peterborough. We are so absolutely anxious beyond belief but the passport office help desk couldn’t care less. (Rant over).

7th July I applied by post office check & send (just after govt announced we are allowed to travel) 15th July HMPO had received passport application.(9 days after sending) Between 15th & 28th July had messaged twitter a few times & got update emails from their tracking page found out my passport was at newport. 27th July called the passport office & requested call back, got call back & asked to be put through to complaints dept. 28th July ( 2 weeks before travel- travel 11th Agust) requested the application to be expedited with evidence I booked travel before covid 28th July emailed my local MP 29th July got expedited application rejected because I don't fit the criteria of application being with them 4 weeks (which i wouldn't because we were advised not to apply before the 4th July because before that it was essential travel only.) 29th July received text saying due to delays passport could be up to 6 weeks. 1st August Old passport turned up 3rd August New passport arrived - Yay So a very Stressful 27 days with a lot of mis-nformation from different departments - but it came!

Had a mad panic with under 6 weeks to go till our holiday, daughters passport had expired and needed renewing. Application sent in online on Sunday 19th July (Belfast I think) and received her new passport yesterday (5th August). No prompting from me at all and it turned out ok in the end - pretty quick turn around considering all the bad press! History below: Passport printed and sent 1:56pm on 3 August 2020 Application approved 11:06am on 1 August 2020 Application being processed 11:28am on 23 July 2020 Documents received 5:12pm on 21 July 2020 Application received 12:41pm on 19 July 2020 Identity details received 12:41pm on 19 July 2020 Email sent to person confirming your identity 12:30pm on 19 July 2020 Ask someone to confirm your identity 11:38am on 19 July 2020 Application submitted 11:38am on 19 July 2020

We applied for my son's passport renewal on 27th June, and received passport just today. That is after nearly 1 and half months. Supporting documents were sent to Peterborough but was processed by Newport. We sent the supporting documents on 1st July, which was received by HMPO on 2nd July. However, it took nearly 10 days for them to say "Documents received". As we have to flyout on 15th August (Not a holiday, but due to job) I had quiet a bit of stressful time, including many sleepless nights. Called their call centre many times, also called my local Conservatives MP. I believe it is essential that they should know when you are flying, so that they can prioritise your application, at least 2 weeks before you fly out. Application history Passport printed and sent 1:29pm on 4 August 2020 Application approved 6:21pm on 3 August 2020 Application being processed 1:12pm on 16 July 2020 Documents received 3:36pm on 11 July 2020 Application received 6:30pm on 27 June 2020 Identity details received 6:29pm on 27 June 2020 Email sent to person confirming your identity 4:36pm on 27 June 2020 Ask someone to confirm your identity 4:28pm on 27 June 2020 Application submitted 4:28pm on 27 June 2020

My son's passport arrived yesterday, with two weeks to go so we can now look forward to it. My MP did email them and I messaged them often, whether that made a difference or not, I don't know but I know they have been told to make sure people have their passports in time for travel. Thank you for your help. It is good to know that other people are in the same boat and supportive. I hope everyone gets theirs soon.

We applied for a renewal, paper version at the post office - check and send - posted 22nd July - special delivery but wasn't received or 'picked up' until 29th, I waited the 3 weeks before chasing yesterday (from the date we sent) and it was still waiting to be approved. Called this morning and it's gone for printing - we ferry to France on the 20th... lady I spoke with was confident we've plenty of time to get it before then. Will provide full timeline once we get the passport through the letterbox! The call I made yesterday though does seem to have one something... unless it's just pure coincidence..
