Liverpool office has been quickest for me. Still waiting for passports from other offices all sent at the same time.
I’ve had an email this morning to say my son’s application is going to be withdrawn on 16th May if the documents aren’t received! I sent them on 22nd Feb? Also my husband’s, have not been noted as received. They have had mine though.
How could they have lost them? Keep trying to phone, last week the progress office was supposed to call back but no-one has.
Good luck to anyone waiting on passports! I actually can’t believe the situation we are in and the total disgrace that continues to be the passport office.
We were supposed going on a last family holiday with my mum who is dying of cancer and this is the last time she will be well enough to go.
Before sending in applications on the 2nd of Feb, I called up to get advice about if a normal application would come in time and the best way to send documents to make the application as seem less as possible. I was told as we needed a child first passport as well as adult renewal fast track wasn’t an option (this was factually incorrect information). I sent the documents for both passports in one envelope with a cover letter as requested.
The passport office are aware of our circumstances. Every time you ring up you get a totally different response, none of which ever come true!
We were told 5-7 days from approval to passport delivered. Mine and my daughters were finally approved the 29th March, we moved our flight date from the 2nd to 6th on this advice (already losing 3/4 days to make the final memories with my mum). Both passports were printed yesterday mine first thing and my daughters at lunchtime. Hers was available to track within and hour and is arriving today. Mine still can’t be tracked.
I have done everything in my power to sort this mess out, TNT are happy for us to pick up in depot when they receive mine. My MP has tried to contact the passport office on our behalf (they have a dedicated MP line) but even they can’t get through.
The passport office have single handedly robbed us of a chance to go on that final holiday together and they don’t even care because it’s been 9 weeks not 10! I would have happily payed for fast track but was told wrongly before applying that a) we wouldn’t be able to do that and b) they would be back within the 9 weeks
Absolutely gutted 😞
Maryy93: how absolutely awful! I've also been getting incorrect information from the start. You should contact bbc watchdog! Tell them of your experience I am sure they'd want to do something. By doing so you will help other not go through what you have been over the last couple months. Safe travels my lovely
Does anyone have any recent experience as to how long it takes for documents to be returned after the application has been approved?
I had to send off a non British passport, that I have due to dual-citizenship, as part of my British passport renewal application. I'll be travelling to that country soon as so need the passport back as soon as possible.
My application was approved 2 weeks ago, and I received my new British passport last week, should I be chasing the office for an update?
For context I paid for signed for/tracked return of documents.
I am still waiting for my passport which was printed on 1st April, TNT tracker had it for delivery yesterday but nothing arrived. Need it to fly on Saturday, cannot even check in on the flight.
Thanks lovie im beginning to think either my examiner is on a very long tea break or gone on holiday lucky thing !!!.
cmckenzie444 - our child first passport was approved 30/03 and printed late last night so fingers crossed yours will be printed real soon !
Hi, posting here because I found this forum really useful. Flying out on Sunday and passport arrived this morning (child's first passport). Didn't receive any advance notification from TNT, just kept trying the tracking code (after receiving update that passport had been printed last wednesday), which started working late last night. Fingers crossed for anyone waiting, it's been a really stressful few weeks.
The big gap in the middle of our application is when we were asked to provide more paperwork, in addition to what was originally asked for (also two sets of 10 working day delays between royal mail 'delivering' our paperwork and passport office 'receiving' it). I don't think the rules at the start are clear for adopted children [we were asked for birth certificate OR adoption certificate. We sent birth certificate. They asked us to then send adoption certificate...].

cmckenzie444 - also approved on 31st March, at 12:59. No further notifications since then, waiting impatiently! Also first child’s passport.
Can I please ask what format you enter the reference into TNT? Do you use the PEX part?
Yes you use the PEX reference until you get the TNT reference number and press on the number it will take you to the tracker.
I printed this morning just after 5am
Had my passports yesterday, one was due Monday and the other today according to TNT tracking. Was told that COVID jab and booster record cards are not acceptable for travelling, need to get certificate from NHS another 7 to 10 working days before delivery, need them before the 18th of this month
dsimmo - great news on your child’s passport getting printed. Got my fingers crossed that my sons will be next off the printing press!
An update on my child renewal
approved on 24th, did not get the notification of printed till 1st April, tracking was available from 1st late afternoon with a delivery date of 4th April. Passport was not delivered as stated, called TNT yesterday and they put it out for delivery today, delivered on 6th.
Checked the dates on the passport and it was printed on 25th March, 10 days to get to me. Completely unacceptable work by HMPO and their subcontractors.
Do you know how long it was between your documents being signed for at the passport office and you getting the approved confirmation? I’ve had to send additional docs for proof of parental responsibility (not sure why) but they were signed for 8 days ago, so I’m hoping for an update soon!
louisej23, My timeline below. I called them on 24th March and the same evening it was approved, don't know if it is a coincidence

I'm in the same boat as you child first passport approved in ,same dates so far but no update on printing being completed we must be in the same batch. I too fly out on the 22th. Some serious lessons learnt.
Engineer123 have you managed to get a hold of the office? I’m going to wait until tomorrow morning for an update then will attempt to call. Definitely lessons learnt here, praying for a speedy delivery following printing
cmckenzie444 - yeah i had a fast track appointment but since booking it I've been told that as the application has been accepted technically the passport exists even if it hasn't been printed yet. so i can no longer apply for fast track.
so, I'm in the lap of the gods right now!
I haven't rang them for progress as its not beyond 10 weeks and reading on here it appears that phoning before 10 weeks for progress updates gets you nowhere.
I'm tempted do call - will leave it until Friday.
this is so stressful.
Text message recieved that mine has been printed late last night. But until its in my hand I'm not out of the woods yet. Holiday fast approaching!
There are rumours in another part of the forum that the backlog is starting to hit the press and they are not offering it but if you ask then there's a super fast track service where you can pay a fee and prove you're travelling within the next 14 days. Not sure how true it is but maybe worth a shot to anyone flying soon and desperate.
My sons passport finally arrived today after starting the application on Feb 4!
Wastedoranges - yey! Hopefully mine will be close behind (application 15th feb)
Hey guys! Just thought I’d share my experience. Thankfully it was a positive one! Thanks to a random TikTok video, I realised that my passport may be invalid when I travel to the EU in May! So I decided to renew my (adult) passport just in case! Here’s how it went:
Application submitted: 7:20pm on 21 March 2022
Application received: 7:21pm on 21 March 2022
Sent old passport (Royal Mail Tracked 24): 5:00pm on 22 March 2022
Delivery confirmation: 23 March 2022
Documents received: 3:23pm on 30 March 2022
Application approved: 3:30am on 1 April 2022
Passport printed: 7:46am on 6 April 2022
Passport delivered: 7 April 2022
So all in all, it took just over 2 weeks! Or 15 days from when my old passport was delivered to their office.
Just a note: I received a message this morning to say that the passport was scheduled for delivery today, but didn’t get a delivery confirmation, and I couldn’t seem to track it.
