Starting to give up hope. I travel to Belgium on the 18th May, and here's my current status... Documents signed for 2 weeks before it showed on the system. Called them up, examiner supposedly needs to look at my application twice. Initial checks and then thorough checks? Not heard anything. First adult passport. RazOr: mine has similar timetable as you. Went into processing on 17th March been with examiner since 13th April but no news yet. I just keep being told examiner will make contact if they need more details. I fly 06/05/2022

What an absolute joke. Hopefully you get yours sorted ASAP

I qualify for the upgrade on Friday but who knows if anyone will contact me!!

Raz0r - First passport here also and that doesn't make me very hopeful :/ In processing from 1st April after taking 22 days to log my documents. Their website quoted 4 weeks total but allowing their "up to" 10 weeks my partner booked travel for the 16th May, 11 weeks after application From what I've seen other people post processing is around 5 weeks which is this week for you, hopefully you hear something and the extra checks don't add much time on. Did you just ask them where your application was up to on the phone? I'm going to try giving them a ring tomorrow

Otherwise I’m sure it would have been quite quick. Hopefully I get my passport soon! :)

Called today, woman sounded hopeful I'd get my passport before my holiday but can never be sure if they are just fobbing you off. 6 weeks 4 days in, not with an examiner yet, 19 days processing so far, 27 days til flight. She did say all first passports now require an interview though, can anyone confirm this? I did see one person say that on twitter last month but most other people said only a small amount get selected for this.

Yes they do require an interview. It’s around 20 minutes long and at the end of my interview the interviewer said my passport would be printed and arrive within 2 weeks.

What type of questions did they ask you during your interview?

They asked general questions about myself, my job, interests, my witnesses, where I live and of course some document dates etc. A lot of these were follow on questions, it felt like a basic conversation really.

Not everyone applying for first passports requires an interview. I know several people whose application was approved without it. The passport office took 22 days to log the supporting documents. The letter requesting to book an interview date took 13 days to be delivered... it must have sat at the passport office for a while before being posted! I have not been asked for further documentation or been informed of any issues with my application. With a bit of luck I will get the passport before it hits the 3 months mark! Some people seem to get their within a couple of weeks, it seems I was just unlucky. Having a bit of a slow run with my daughter's first child passport. Hoping we make progress soon, as we're booked to go on holiday on 16 May. Her documents were signed for on 31 March but they didn't acknowledge them for almost two weeks. This does not bode well for getting passports in time! pusinky - that's what I thought but the woman on the phone said all new first adult passports need an interview now, I even asked twice as I'd heard otherwise as well. Can I ask what was the date your interview letter was sent then, the 25th? Just trying to judge roughly if I do get one as your timeline is the same as mine just a month earlier. (22 days for docs, then 3 and a bit working days to go to processing) Means I'd be due one in about 5 days I hate the whole process of phoning them up and being on hold but guess I'm going to have to every few days as I can't afford to wait 13 days for a letter just asking to call them.

My child renewal appears to be processing rather quickly compared to others. Hi @Stp - that's definitely not the case, my 1st passport after naturalisation was approved last week with no interview. It depends on how recently your citizenship was granted. I believe if it's been less than 12 months then no interview is needed, as they would have recently checked your identity at your biometrics appointment.

leiluna - mine is actually a first adult passport as someone born in England, never having held one before. Not sure if they are processed the same, I do hold a British driver's licence so maybe they have enough on the system to not need an interview? Have just remembered the woman on the phone actually said they will text/email me when it comes to that though so anyone else reading who's needed an interview can I ask if they wrote, text or emailed you for it?

What type of questions did they ask you during your interview?

Mine was done online in March - basically spell your name, then basically a sort of conversation where you are asked various things, where do you live, describe your house how far away is so and so, how would you get to your local shop from your house (describe route) why do you need a passport, where are you planning to go - just general stuff really things you'll know easily - if you're really you that is!!

Yup interview for you - it's been policy for a few years. While mine wasn't technically a first passport as my actual first passport was issued back in the 1980's and long lost and they no longer have records of those passports I had to apply as if it was my first - I too was born here. Mine was done online and it's really nothing to worry about - unless of course you're trying to steal someone's identity!!

Djbdane - thanks for the info. How did they get in contact with you to arrange the interview, was it letter, text or post? I'm perfectly fine with having an interview it's just a few pages back pusinky had said it took 13 days to receive a letter requesting an interview and then 12 days wait for the earliest one. With my flight now being 25 days away I'd need to arrange an interview in the next week now and even that's pushing it.
