I also used a photo taken at Max Spielman for my son's renewal, sent to Newport, but it's been stuck on the "documents received" stage for a month now.

Application received 5:49pm on 12 April 2022

I also submitted my own renewal and my daughter's renewal on the same date - they both went to Liverpool, I received my new passport on 30th April, and my daughter received hers on 19th May.
There seems to be quite a bit of luck involved, which is frustrating.
And as if by magic:
Application approved 8:27pm on 24 May 2022
So relieved. Good luck everyone.
For anyone stuck in “processing” in Newport, here is my timeline to put some minds at ease. I did do a web chat today, and it was approved 45 mins later:

Did you contact them or had it just happened itself?, I was the same as you applied for 3, mine went to Liverpool and took 13 days to arrive, one of my kids went over to belfast and took 12 but the newport one is just sat at documents received!, if they are struggling they shouldn't still be sending them there
I contacted them using online chat, they told me it was still processing and was with an examiner. They said it shouldn’t be too long.. 45 mins later all done
I didn't contact them as it's still more than two weeks to our flight date.
However, about 2 hours before it went to "application approved", I clicked on the "Fill in a survey about this service" button that appears when you view the current status of your application (after you enter your PEX number). I gave some feedback on the inconsistency in approval times, and 2 hours later it was approved.
Now, the same thing happened with my daughter's application - I gave some feedback (via her application) and it was approved less than a day later. At the time I just put that down to coincidence, but then yesterday I saw others mention it happening to them on facebook groups so I thought I'd try it out with my son's application (nothing to lose), and like I say it was approved 2 hours later. I'm not sure though - plenty of others said it didn't work for them on the facebook groups, and with the amount of people waiting it's going to happen by chance for some, but it's worth a shot anyway I guess. (I didn't enter my email address at the end of the survey, so that isn't needed).
Has anyone just turned up to the passport office to get theirs sorted that day? I need to fly with work this coming sunday for business critical reasons and because it's under 6 weeks the upgrade team won't push it through. I'm pretty desperate here so hoping this might get flagged as an emergency
Hi, has anyone gone to the Newport passport office without an appointment? And what was your experience?
I am reading on different forums that some people have had success with this at other passport offices.
We travel next Tuesday 31st, but have not had any luck in getting an upgrade on my child's first passport. Feeling quite desperate now.
I applied for my Son’s child renewal. The documents were received by them on 29th April so didn’t take too long to show. I’m not sure why it went into processing but after that it took 2 weeks to be approved.

My daughters passport arrived today. Seems a bit of hit and miss on timescales as looked like a number submitted theirs after means got them before. Anyway, here’s my timescales.
Passport printed 3:43am on 27 May 2022
Application approved 10:29am on 25 May 2022
Application being processed 10:51am on 6 May 2022

Mine hasn't moved since the 8th of April, I have emailed three times and spoken to someone twice and they just keep saying I can upgrade two weeks before we are due to go, which is in 2 weeks time. I am so stressed I feel sick, I am tempted to just postpone the holiday. We had 13 weeks to go when I applied it's an absolute joke.

Hi gi81
Thanks so much for this tip. I did this last night out of desperation and if I’m honest not really expecting it to work, but woke up this morning to ‘application approved!’
Here is an indication of Newport processing times for applications from the start of May
Application history
Application approved 7:35am on 4 June 2022
Application being processed 2:01pm on 24 May 2022
Documents received 7:36pm on 12 May 2022 (they actually arrived there on 4th May according to Royal Mail)
Application received 8:31pm on 2 May 2022
Application submitted 8:31pm on 2 May 2022
No idea how long it is supposed to take from application approved to getting the passport? Flight is 2 weeks 5 days away with an alternative one 3 weeks today.
From my experience with Newport, passport was printed 2 days after approval and delivered 2 days after being printed
Newport renewal update.
Applied 31st March(10wks ago)
Docs received 1st April
Processing 7th April(9wks ago)
Nothing since 7/4 till yesterday 8/6.
In one day......
Approved 9am sent to printing couple hours later...told will notify when sending.
Didn't BUT
In my hand 24 hrs later am almost in shock....
Will add did pay for fast postage at start but after looking at processing stage for 9 week couple days faster posting was not my or most people's main concern.
Hopefully things are catching up at least as felt like was bottom of some buried pile that other newer applications were being dealt with sooner.
Yeah it looks like the newer applications are being dealt with quicker for some reason. The royal mail delivered my old passport to Newport on 4th May, TNT have texted me today (10th June) to say my passport is being delivered today. So, my wait for an Adult renewal was 5 weeks 1 day

Hello.. I sent in my application from Tanzania in March.. it is now June and application is still being processed. This is for an adult renewal. Is there an email address that I can write to or phone number that can actually allow me to speak to a human instead of getting an automated reply? Please help as I’m due to travel in 3 weeks!!!
Hi smanek271
I’d genuinely recommend using the web chat if you can get through to someone, it may take a few hours of trying and you need to be quick when someone is available to speak to, but I did it and it worked. I was told on the chat that it was with an examiner, but less than an hour after the chat it moved to approved and I got the passport less than a week later.
This is the number for the progress team. I hope it helps! 0300 105 0850
Thank you swm1982 and NS2022
I've been stuck at documents received since the 16th May, I think this is beyond ridiculous as I know people who applied after me and have their passports already, this is a renewal by the way. I've tried the webchat and tried the old survey trick, but to no avail. If anybody has any other advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Comments:
The longest wait was for Royal Mail to return my old passport. Once it had been received, my new passport arrived within 3 days (not 10 weeks as published on the .gov website…)
