I am having a similar situation with the Liverpool office. Royal Mail delivered my documents on 1 Feb but the passport office seems to have lost them! I've been waiting for a call back since Tuesday. How can they say 'lost in transit' as if it's nothing to do with them... The whole system is a shambles
Lost in transit seems to me like a way off fobbing off the fact that they've screwed up!! I've been awaiting a call since Thursday. The woman I spoke to told me to call back if I hadn't heard in a couple of days. I'll be calling on Monday. Then again Tue, Wed, Thurs and every day until I get this resolved.
A few things I have learnt from the 13 calls I have made to the Passport office:
-if they say I'll put you through to the progress team they will give it 4 rings then say they aren't there can I arrange a call back instead.
-my last callback took 5 days for them to contact me
-I was told that if you have requested a call back and they haven't rung you, then you request another call back it will cancel out the first request so often best to just hang in there.
-Ask to be put through to the complaints team, a team leader or the HMPO itself but hang in there on hold to these ones as someone will eventually pick up even if it takes 1 hour 45 mins (yes I hung on that long).
-if they say they will put you on the urgent list it means nothing. Unless should have a medical emergency/death then it gives you very little priority over others, it just sits in a different queue waiting for an examiner. A HMPO complaints manager told me yesterday that sometimes being in this queue can actually slow it down if there has been an issue raised about your documents etc.
-the complaints team and central HMPO itself don't work on a Sunday.
-if anyone says that it has been marked as urgent and should arrive within the next week it's a false promise. Don't believe any timesce they tell you as it just gives false hope.
Sorry to be so negative but this is everything I have experienced during the past 5 weeks since submitting our application.
If anyone is reading this and you are considering applying for a name change and have less than 10 weeks before departure then please pay for a Fast track appointment, I wish we'd had that that foresight.
Has anyone actually used the 'lost in transit' process. I was told there's a section on the gov.uk website to fill in but I can find it anywhere.
Thanks in advance.
I will certainly be using the fast track process if I have to re-apply. Another £140 odd. I wonder if the Passport office will compensate me any or will they use the excuse that it was my decison to re-apply as opposed to waiting to see if the passport turned up, thus they take no responsibly for the extra charge??
My daughter's first passport arrived fairly quickly.

Phoned up today and after being on hold for 55 minutes, my call was answered by a nice gentleman who informed me that the Peterborough office was closed on Friday due to the weather (I didn't realise Her Majesty's Passport Office Peterborough was outside!!!) so my case will be a day behind and that I should expect a call tomorrow or Wednesday, if not, then I am to call again. No further forward unfortunately.
Well blow me down, today, exactly 5 weeks since they were sent, my old passport had been located and the application updated to 'documents received'. Now the waiting game!
Good luck to everyone else!
This is my timeline, according to the Post Office my old passport was received at Peterborough on the 8th February.

I have received no tracking info from TNT yet, does anybody know if there are delays in getting passports delivered at the moment?
Good luck everyone
My Passport was printed and sent on Monday 21/02/2022 but still nothing from TNT - I phoned yesterday and they confirmed that it hadn't been picked up or handed over yet.
Anyone else experiencing the same issue with delivery from TNT? Flying on 16/03 so hoping they sort this soon.

So glad it took such a short time - just over two weeks, and I needed it desperately as I travel for work now!
Two weeks is excellent!
Strange how some track as 'being processed' and other don't.
@biiigspider
That’s really good. Was yours a first passport or a renewal?
I sent my application off for a first passport on the 22nd of Feb, I need it for a holiday booked in beginning of April. I know I’ve left it pretty late but looking at the times on here I’m feeling confident it will come in time. Fingers crossed.
So far these are my timings.
Application received 4:32pm on 22 Feb

Ask someone to confirm your identity 3:52pm on 22 Feb

I have sent the documents as well but I know it seems to be taking up to 10 days to update on the passport system that they’ve actually received them.
Just for completeness:-

I received no tracking from TNT at all, no email, no SMS, there were no scans on the TNT passport tracking until it was out for delivery, no collection scan, no at depot scan, just an 'out for delivery' scan this morning. Hope this info may reassure others
I seem to be one day behind you Flynnthedog and so far have not received any tracking information. May I ask, was your passport just posted through the letterbox as being as I do not know when delivery will be I really can’t be in all day waiting! Or if anyone else can answer this question. Thank you.
Is anyone on here, who is still waiting or who have recently received theirs, submitted a first time passport application?
My Passport journey was as follows:
Application Submitted 12th February
Application Received 12th February
Document Received 23rd February
Application Approved 23rd February
Passport Printed/Sent 24th February
Passport Received 2nd March
I didn’t receive any tracking information from TNT until the 1st March saying that delivery would be the following day.
This was a renewal passport for an adult.
2 first child passports arrived this morning, application as follows.
Passport printed and sent 3 March 2022
Application approved 1 March 2022
Application being processed 10 February 2022
Documents received 10 February 2022

I chased a fair bit and at the end of Feb requested the supporting documents back (as this included alternative passport with which we could travel). I get the feeling this request prompted them to look at the application as prior to this request it felt stuck in "application being processed" (i.e. waiting on someone to review it) for a while with no meaningful update.
Interesting Neil. It seems some people are processed far quicker than others and some aren't even getting to the processed stage, documents are being recieved and applications approved instantly as per Cassdog. I waited 5 weeks for them to locate my documents after I sent them and am now on day 10 of 'application being processed'. How difficult can it be ffs!?!? I'll be phoning them again soon.
Thanks.
Passport application APPROVED as of this morning!!! Finally!

This is really beginning to stress us out. Applied for four passport renewals on 13th January (2 adult, 2 children) and so far recieved both adult renewals and one child renewal within 3 weeks. Both child renewals where sent to Peterborough.
The remaining child renewal has been sitting as Application being processed since 9th February. Made multiple calls to the passport office, each time being told there is nothing they can do and to just be patient.
No idea why this application is taking so much longer.
Have holiday booked for 4th April and worrying that they aren't going to process it in time. It feels like it's been forgotten or keeps getting moved to the bottom of a pile.
Application history
Application being processed 8:35am on 9 February 2022
Documents received 11:08am on 27 January 2022
Application received 9:26pm on 13 January 2022
Identity details received 9:26pm on 13 January 2022
Email sent to person confirming your identity 8:28pm on 13 January 2022

We are the same, applied on 13th January, whole load of issues with ID docs until it finally moved to processing on the 9th Feb and hasn't moved since. It's almost 8 weeks, every complaint gets us no further.
Just like clockwork, the day you come here to vent your frustrations is the day the application finally gets approved. Relieved is an understatement! Hopefully passport will be sent for printing shortly and be with us within the week.
I hate all this worry done 3 child renewals sent old passports off 15 days ago special delivery I no there the but then get text last night we still ain’t received your old passport . I can’t cope I can’t tell you how many times a day I’m check to see if status has change to docs received
If it's of any help to anyone this was my timeline (it took 5 weeks from application to receive everything back, inc. supporting documents):
Passport received on 01 March 2022, supporting documents received on 08 March 2022.
Passport printed and sent 1:21pm on 21 February 2022
Application approved 12:34pm on 18 February 2022
Documents received 6:46pm on 10 February 2022
Application received 8:07pm on 31 January 2022
Application submitted 8:07pm on 31 January 2022
My biggest worry was that the passport took over a week to be delivered from when it had been printed - I thought it had gone missing!
