Recent UK Passport Applicant Timelines

The overall experience was good, considering it took 6 months to complete. You have to follow the process and be very patient along the way, & eventually you will receive it.

Quite stressful as I previously held a UK passport but it expired in 2009 so had to re-send everything, including documents over 80 years old. Gathering documents and sending old passport from NZ very expensive. Sent the wrong type of marriage certificate so had to resend the a new one from Births, a Deaths and Marriages which delayed application by 2 weeks and cost more money in postage. Glad to finally have UK passport and will definitely renew every ten years from now on. What took time was for my documents to be scanned as received. They were delivered on 10th Feb and scanned in on 18th Feb. This held the process back timewise, but otherwise all went quickly.

*Online application was straightforward. *Old passport and colour copy of my German passport (every page!) sent by "Einschreiben" (registered mail) *Confirmation email sent by passport office at every stage (receipt of application, receipt of documents, passport approved, printed, shipped, plus a reminder to sign the passport). No need to constantly check the website. *New passport sent by DHL Express, arrived less than 24 hours after notification of shipping. Was supposed to be signed for, but courier folded the envelope and put it in my letterbox. Luckily no damage.

Application started and old passport sent Saturday 14/02 Old passport arrived Tuesday 17/02 12:33 (RM T&T) Confirmed documents received at 23:51 17/02 Application approved 13:02 25/02 Passport printed 21:17 25/02 Passport received 11:52 27/02

I think it took a bit extra time because they are really busy because of the new dual citizenship requirements

Overall pretty straight forward, worst part is sending your old passport. I am so forgetful even with multiple emails and sms’s

Once they acknowledged documents received to application approved took 8 days, then from passport printed to delivery to home in Canada was 4 days

Application process online easy. Posting time to send original and additional document longest time from Australia. Text messages re status, status change and reminders (to send docs etc) good. HMPO do not update tracking for receipt of subsequent docs requested/sent - this is a timeline gap in knowledge for those posting from overseas (with new rules effective 25 Feb).

Had to send further documents , so time extended as I had to order said document and post from Australia.

Used DHL. Search for 50% discount codes! Check which office in UK your passport needs to go to. I had to send two renewals to separate offices :(

Application very clear about which documents were required. Very concerned about sending off original but and marriage certs, particularly as my husband didn’t get his birth certificate back in his documents delivery. Fortunately his cert arrived with mine a few days later. Communication was excellent with an email notification at every step. 18 days from start to receiving my passport.

20 year expired renewal with name change by marriage. Mailing by USPS registered mail took 2 weeks for it to arrive. Then 3 days to scan in documents after that. Approved on a Friday but not printed until 1am Monday. Also applied for first child passport for my US born son at the same time, same envelope. Documents scanned at same time. His was approved the day after mine. His did not arrive yet. DHL said mine would arrive tomorrow, then changed it to today, with 30 minutes notice. I did sign for arrival. Passport printed Sunday night in the USA and then I didn't get a text from DHL until Tuesday 7am.

Passport arrived much quicker than expected. Cannot fault the service

Mine was a straightforward renewal, no urgency, therefore used express registered postal mail. Maybe if I had used a courier I could have gained a couple of days. I was informed of every step of the procedure.
