Recent UK Passport Applicant Timelines

Application from NZ for replacement of UK passport issued in Wellington NZ 2002. Classed as first time application ! so included both expired UK red passports and NZ statutory declaration inc reasons for overseas application and a NZ statutory declaration for downloaded documents for a parents name change. Inc both parents bc and their mc. Inc 3 x proof of address. Used myIR and requested tax residency certificate. HMPO did not ask for any other docs and all docs returned 4 days after passport series D arrived.

Took photo in booth in Sainsbury's Saturday lunchtime, completed application online, too late to get Saturday post so it went Monday 1st class. New passport received Friday. 6 days. Zero problems.

Very easy, the longest wait time was for the verifying of information from a third party. Once they had approved it, they messaged to say it was being printed on the Friday, and I received it on the Saturday

Took photo on phone on 8 June, posted old passport on 9. June, new passport received 19 June. Clear instructions on photo quality, took half a dozen attempts to get a good quality photo.

Did passport renewal for me and my husband. Posted both to Corby in 1 envelope (could have chosen Hemel Hempsted) by special delivery. Both old passports received on 11th June. Got the passport approved emails for both exactly a week later on 18th June in the morning and both passports printed that evening. Royal Mail delivered both passports on 20th June. Very fast service . Now waiting for old passports to be sent.

It would be more cost efficient if all supporting documents are requested at the same time, as opposed to having the applicant pay multiple DHL fees to send multiple envelops

Very good process, I made sure to follow the instructions and had no problems.

My passport was initially water damaged (to the point where the signature and previous immigration information had smudged) so required a replacement. No issues with digital photo submission from myself, just making sure to have a lot of light and a white background, and setting a timer to take the headshot (as I had no one else available) seemed to be sufficient. Application was processed quite quickly following the old passport being received and aligns to current wait times noted.

New passport received on 10 June 2026 Supporting documents received 9 June 2026 Passport printed on 8 June 2026 Application approved on 7 June 2026 I contacted the passport office by online chat to explain that my name was correct in the machine readable part of passport. 6 July 2026 I was told that my name in my foreign passport was wrong, and I must get the name changed in my foreign passport on 6 June 2026 Passport office acknowledged documents received on 1 June 2026 According to post office tracking, documents arrived at passport office on 26 May 2026 Application received on 21 May 2026 Identity details received on 21 May 2026 Email sent to person confirming your identity on 21 May 2026 Ask someone to confirm your identity on 21 May 2026 Application submitted on 21 May 2026

Don't sent documents on Fridays before Bank holidays. Also RM has to hold deliveries for Saturdays. It took then a week after RM stated delivered to be shown as received by HM PO, I asked in WebChat whether it is normal nothing was shown after a week. 5min after the chat the application tracker updated to received. Submitted: 20th May ID confirmed and documents sent off on 22nd of May Documents delivered on 26th of May Documents received on 2nd June Application approved 8th of June 4:35pm Passport printed 9th of June 4:11pm (no further update from now on in the app) Passport dispatched on 10th of June as per HM PO, using PEX number to check for tracking in RM stating delivery on 12th June Passport delivered around 11.30am on 11th (RM text received in the morning for the timeslot, this was the first message from RM, confirmed a 2nd time 2 hrs later before final text with delivery notification. I was still on a bus couple of hours frome home) Supporting documents supposed to be delivered on 13th of June, HM PO email received with tracking number on the 11th June at 4pm.

Attended appointment at passport office on Friday 5th June and it was delivered on Tuesday 9th

Easy experience, had to provide photocopy of dual nationality passport so may have taken longer than usual to review.

Very smooth, straightforward and quick process. However, HMPO used the thinnest possible envelope for returning my supporting documents and my Certificate of Naturalisation got crumpled. HMPO should be using hard backed envelopes for returning valuable documents.

Fairly easy. Request for family photos from 50 years ago was nonsensical as they do not prove identity.
