Why would they need to verify ID for a second time?

I have applied for my son's first passport (in addition to my other two childrens first passports). My youngest one has been approved but my eldest sons application has apparently been placed on hold as they need someone to verify his identity - again?! His headteacher verified it in March, same as for my youngest, so I don't know why one was approved but the other they want another person to verify it? Can anyone suggest why please? I'm panicking a little bit now as we go away in just over 6 weeks and still have my eldest and middle child's passports to approve and post... 😬

This has literally happened to me today too. I have applied for my daughters first passport and confirmed at the time of application they have today told me the same. Luckily I have been able to get someone to confirm identity. I don’t know how long it will take from here but I need it in 20 days!!

I also have someone else who has agreed a confirm ID (a teacher friend), I'm keeping everything crossed that they just sort it quickly now! I wish I knew what was happening with my daughter's as the last thing I heard was that they had received her documents but nothing since 🙄 Good luck bluker

Well my daughter's has been approved today and my youngest son's has now been printed so it is just my eldest son that we have had this issue with. I'm honestly wondering if someone at the passport office has hit the wrong button or something?! I feel like ringing the helpline to query it but not sure I can be bothered to sit on hold 🤣
