So when I say I have been on edge for days I am not lying. I lost my passport on the Wednesday and due to fly Sunday 8am.
Went to the passport office in Liverpool at 11.30am Wednesday to be told I needed to book an appointment online. Luckily there was an appointment that day but at 13.30. (If your appointment is after 1pm the guarantee for fast track is 8 days). I booked it anyway as I had to get a new one. She wrote my date of travel on the top of the application in order to give it a better chance. Application was processed and approved the next day (Thursday). It was printed at 10am Friday and sent for postage at 3pm that day. I didn’t receive any notifications at printing stage. I received a text Saturday evening to say my passport will be delivered via Royal Mail by 7pm Sunday. I received my passport at 12pm Sunday. So in total from application to receive the passport on fast track it took 3.5 days.
If this gives any one a glimmer of hope then I’m happy but don’t bank on it. Also I have been calling the customer service passport office on the hour every hour for days to ask for updates but honestly it is just a waiting game they cannot do anything except add a note to the account until the 7 day guarantee has passed but if it helps to get updates call them as much as you need.
I missed my flight but booked on the later that day.
The only thing I was confused by was why my docs were printed in Liverpool but sent to Glasgow to then be sent to me back in Liverpool.
