Applied online for renewal on 1st Aug and posted expired passport the same day. Passport was then lost at Hemel Hempstead. We couldn’t get a lost passport reference until 5th Sept as passport office wanted us to wait in case it turned up. Logged lost passport reference 5th Sept. Then followed up with several calls to check progress as we are going away on 7th October. We were told that there were no guarantees that we would get the passport on time! On 18th September we received a message asking for a counter signature! Sent completed form on 19th which was received at Durham on 20th. Received a phone call from the examiner on 22nd to say passport was approved. Printed the same night. Finally received passport today after a very stressful few weeks.

13/09 application, Docs recieved 19/09 and authorised 6am 25/09 and printed 2pm same day. Notified by RM that delivery was expected 26/09 early evening and it was in hand by 5pm.
Although the photo was accepted online and it was third party confirmed as true resemblance to my daughter, they requested another picture as they thought it was not recent (she looks younger than her years!!) but when uploaded it was immediately accepted (4min) so didn’t delay it thankfully.

Given that there were 3 delays (2 Spanish Bank Holidays, and an extra day on my DHL 24hr delivery due to weather for passport to arrive to UK), quite impressed. The wait for documents to register on the system as received was stressful. I found out the wait from Printed > DHL text > Delivery was due to a 3rd party collecting passport & delivery to the FCO depot for DHL to then take receipt. Overall, great job from Hemel Hempstead but see Corby are on top of their game a bit quicker!
