The issue with the renewals isn’t just Covid-19 they moved 80% of the staff who where working in the offices to the nearest DWP universal credit processing centre. Apparently they are moving back to the passport office on 1st July.

A lot of the office staff for HMPO where asked back to work to get the backlog done at end April to mid May and they refused due to unsafe working conditions in almost every site at the request of the trade union.

The fact you can’t upgrade your renewal either is a very contentious rule IMO. Seen someone crack up on their twitter saying give me my passport or my money back. That’s not going to get you anywhere with them, you are at their mercy but some people have held onto the hope they get their holiday after this lockdown.

Some will say in the grand scheme of things we are being selfish but when you have thousands of pounds you have busted a gut to earn for 7/10/14 days in the sun then you are entitled to be anxious and feel frustrated especially when it is a renewal and one or both parents have passports it should be an “easy hit” imo.

Yeah I was Uber polite also guy was really genuine. I applied on 29th May and it’s been processing since 5th June so with you being processing since 2nd June you have given me one they are working through it date wise (like any sensible organisation should) and today they are on 2nd or 3rd of June and I should hear something end of this week start of next.

Damo a hope you don’t mind me asking what was your timeline? From online application to printing. I called Glasgow office today and told they would get the passport officer from the progression team to phone me back within 24 hours then few hours later an email saying sorry for the delay, I have been stuck at processing from 5th june

Really don’t know why child renewals are taking longer surely if it’s a renewal it’s a straight forward hit.

1 or both parents have passports.
    Child has existing passport
Child under age 12 has had passport verified by an independent person

Surely you would just get them done and out!

Total lottery. As I said in other thread apparently Glasgow will be getting their passport staff back from the DWP Universal credit processing on 1st July 2020

    Glasgow a total shambles.

    Child renewal done 29th may
    Document received 5th June
    Processing since then.

Spoke to family member who works for DWP said all passport office staff in Glasgow bar a dozen or so are moved over to process universal credit claims until 30th June.

Spoke to guy last week in Glasgow said “it should be printed any day but you shouldn’t have booked a holiday” thing was booked and paid for since February after a decent win!

Go away 5 weeks today giving up hope of going now and will have to allow the mrs and the family to go and me and my son will need to stay in the UK

When did you send your passport stuff away?

I done mine 29th May 2020 for my son’s renewal.

Been sitting at processing since 5th June 2020 – phoned them Friday told it should be an easy renewal as passport digital picture was fine, both parents have passports so he doesn’t understand why when I told him I have seen people send it after my date have their passports – said could be printed any day to give it to this Friday coming and phone back.

Explained to them we have summer holiday end July and he said you shouldn’t have booked anything told them it has been booked and paid for since February!!!

Mother-in-law works at Northgate DWP said most of passport office staff have been drafted over to process Universal Credit claims and not expected back into their normal Passport roles before 1st July.

Need to check in a week tomorrow online for our flights also!

Understand covid-19 is a serious situation and people will be perceived as being selfish but when you have spent £4,200 on a family holiday before this all kicked off for it to have came through the infections, quarantines, lockdowns etc it really is a frustrating situation!
