Have received my first British passport – it’s now been 5-6 weeks since receiving it and they haven’t returned my supporting documents (2 x Passports and the British Naturalisation Certificate).
ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. If you ask for my property at least have the human decency to return it back to me. I paid for the “extra tracking”. When you can get through to the phone staff or the webchat, I’m told “it’s been sent back” but they can’t provide a tracking number. The web chat casually say “oh it must be in a mail room”. Horrendous customer service.

I needed a passport urgently but was unable to get an appointment at a passport office despite checking regularly. On advice from the passport helpline, I filled out a paper form but ended up having to fill out an application online instead. Despite my application including a change of name, I received my new passport in just under a month despite being told I would have to wait until August. I ended up getting a passport quicker through the online application process than if I’d kept waiting for an in-person appointment.

Dropped in to the black hole!!
Went to manual processing on 05/04, supplied lost passport reference number for them to link and they never.
Took me going to my MP for an expedite to get it even looked at. Once the examiner pulled it, it was actually looked at, approved and printed in 24 hours!
Getting them to look at it was the problem! They clearly never went in date order and it just felt stuck.
So so many are still like this

Overall, very simple service despite the media frenzy. We used a photo taken on a phone and are traveling in mid July so had a lot of panic for no real reason.
there was a delay from 18th May to 5th June for the application to be approved and it did take around a week for the team at Peterborough to acknowledge receipt of the supporting documents after they actually arrived there. However, once approved, the passport was printed in two days and delivered via TNT three days later.
Overall, I would say trust the process as much as possible and expect the average wait times on here to be accurate.

the first adult passport for my 16 year old is causing issues. The same signatory used for all three applications was accepted the issued passport, but rejected on the first adult passport, he has been asked to attend an interview but we still cannot arrange an interview. I am hard of hearing and it is a nightmare trying to get through using the Relay service as they just hang up. one passport issued, but the other two still have no movement 7 + weeks later

We applied on line and sent documents registered post both for speed and peace of mind. My daughter’s old passport ( very recently expired ) was recorded as received just two days after it had been signed for in the Newport office. A nervous 10 day wait then followed (including the BH weekend) before the application was approved. Passport printed 8th June and received yesterday (9th). 17 calendar days start to finish and very relieved that our family holiday can now go ahead.

This was a straightforward child renewal, sent from overseas (France) but the very long holdup was unrelated to the overseas part – the post there and back was the quickest bit!
Applied online with photo code, only took a few days for them to say they’d received the documents, but then it sat in ‘processing’ with no updates from 23rd March till 31st May. Looking at this site it seemed a lot of March applications were left in backlog like this so they could skip through the more recent May applications and make their stats look better.
Once it was printed on the 1st June, it seemed to get caught in the Bank Holiday palaver as it wasn’t posted till the 9th. But then it arrived next day in France with good delivery by DPD.
Overall, it took over 13 weeks!
