Don’t post. It adds an extra three weeks to the wait, three weeks with the Passport Office does not count when trying to hit your 10 week deadline. So mine took 11 weeks, but in their mind it took 8 weeks. The question should be though, how long does it take to get a British passport. Mine was 11 weeks. Also, I tried to accelerate it, and would have been willing to pay the extra. But the phone system was awful, and after three weeks of trying this nothing happened.

I received my passport in 9 weeks and to be fair to the PO that was within the 10 week window that was stated on the website when I applied.
On the 26th May my status update said it was being processed, but then a week later that vanished, so it wasn’t 100% clear what was happening to it. Then on the 11th July I got a text saying it had been printed and it arrived the next day!
Luckily I’m not going abroad until next year, so I think you’ve just got to apply and wait it out until it turns up. If there is a problem with it they will get in touch.

I realised after ordering passport that the waiting times had increased. During week 9 week I had the email to say the application was successful and I’d hear from courier service about delivery. I never heard from the courier service, no email or text. It was signed for delivery so they wouldn’t post it and I ended up missing delivery twice as no warning as to when they would be coming and no contact number to ask. It finally arrived a little after 10 weeks post application.

I made an error on my child’s application so I knew it would cause delays. I have, however, received his passport with plenty of time until out holiday BUT the stressful bit is the not knowing anything at all! I also didn’t get a delivery/ tracking notification and the passport just appeared, luckily, I happened to be in to receive it. This page did help calm my nerves when I was so worried about it. We found applying online was easy. Acknowledgment of received documents was slow, but acceptable – but then all communication ceased. Initially told that the wait was about eight weeks, then saw online that it had gone to ten. At ten weeks we began an onslaught of phone calls and emails – hours of time wasted. Emails were not responded to within the 72 hours that they say to expect a response – that was more like three weeks! Some of our phone calls were clearly being dealt with people who weren’t bothered and wouldn’t help with providing information of where our child’s passport and documents were etc. Some said they can’t access any details. Try again another day kind of thing. Others gave a little more information.
What really agonised us, was the day I received another text, which was a duplicate, saying that they’d received our child’s documents. From then on when we spoke with HMPO we were told that it would be a further ten weeks from that point, when we could complain as they have no previous date available to them to show that it had been sent, received and paid for in March!!
We ploughed on every single day and eventually was told that it was no longer in Liverpool, but London… after more days, more calls and more emails, we were then told that it was in Wales (this passport is already more well travelled than we are at the moment!).
Eventually, I received a call from a lady in Wales (who was wonderful) who promised to deal with this and she confirmed that our documents weren’t lost – which is what I truly believed at this point. And from then on, another two weeks later and our child’s passport arrived: too late to book an affordable holiday abroad this summer, but we have the passport!
Ironically, our other child’s passport went to Durham and was back within six weeks – although my only issue with them was that they required my marriage license as my name had changed since child’s first passport – I found this to be somewhat ludicrous when I have a passport in my married name, for which I had to send my marriage license off for before. (The lady in Wales said that I should never have had to send it, as they know I’ve proved who I am before – therefore, clearly different ways of working throughout the inconsistent system).
In all, fourteen and a half weeks really isn’t acceptable.

It is a bloody catch-22 when they keep asking for someone to verify identity and submit documents when they have already received it. Time is crucial as my father extremely poorly in fact he’s on his deathbed and I cannot leave the UK to go and be with him especially when he’s asking for his grandchildren and myself. Additionally flight fares are increasing and I am struggling now with anxiety and panic attacks in case I do not make it to him in time.
Further calling the advice line is futile as under the circumstances which is considered compassionate they are of no help whatsoever
