Old passport took 2 weeks to be delivered by Royal Mail. Then 2 weeks to be acknowledged as received at Passport Office. Then 3 weeks to start processing. With a Business trip booked for mid June, I rang After a further 5 weeks (10 in total) to chase. Eventually after 5 hours of multiple phone calls, got expedited and was able to collect from London office.

So it seems until you have confirmation that they have your passport on the system as lost/stolen, they won’t start the application. Started process on 19th March, was advised it wasn’t confirmed until 1st April and had taken just over 10 weeks from this date, NOT when I applied.
Worth speaking to lost department to confirm it’s registered on the system…
Such a stress but passport did arrive quickly once approved. 2 days to live to print then text to say TNT have it and delivered by 9:15am that morning!!

Processed by Durham office. 2 months exactly overall – not bad given the current expected timelines (13 weeks for overseas applications). As noted by many posting here, the wait between the courier drop off of documents and these being uploaded as received is the most obscure part of the process. Just over 3 weeks in my case. Also seemed to have missed the dreaded “processing” stage.

Applied for a child renewal on 15 April. Old passport was received/signed for on 19 April. But the system is still saying I haven’t sent it back. It seems there are many examples of people applying for passports well after I did and they have received them already. I have not got mine yet and we are more than twice the average number of days. When I go through the automated system, the recorded message says they have everything they need. It is very stressful and I will probably need to cancel a holiday (booked to go 12 weeks after passport application).
Waiting for interview for first adult passport and process was pretty quick but can’t seem to get through to passport interview office to make appointment for interview, up till now process was quicker than expected but still waiting for call back as I sent email for interview request. Anyone had same experience??
My application seems to have gone backwards in the queue. It said it was being processed on 20th May and today it changed to say identity details received. I’m not sure how it can go back?

I had the same thing happen to my application. I contacted the Passport service customer service team and apparently it is a glitch in their system. The advisor I spoke with confirmed the actual status of my renewal and apologised for the issue and the worry caused.
My application also seems to have gone backwards. Application being processed on 31st May, now reverted to old passport received, and the entry time stamp has been removed. 7 weeks now for a simple adult renewal. My daughter’s passport which was sent the day before was renewed within 2 weeks. Booked to go 11 weeks after application. Don’t know whether there is any point ringing.

Have been waiting for my childs first passport since start of March, now 13weeks and we go on holiday on the 28th of June.
Contacted everyone, passed about. Emailes all upgrade teams, 2 got back to say we have your date of travel please do not contact we will be intouch.
How reliable is this and why is it taking so long!? So anxious.
