My application went to Peterborough branch and they toke 6 weeks exact. They did updated me constantly via email. I have send my documents for check on 8 of March and they updated them as “received” on 21st. Between this 2 weeks I did called them just incase to check if everything was OK. The customer service explain that between “sending” and “receiving” it always takes 2 sometimes 3 weeks to update the system. And also you may have another 1 or 2 weeks of checking the application. As soon is printed comes very fast-3days. When you have update “printed passport” check TNT service on the second date. Usually they will updated in the evening the progress and next morning they will send you in the morning message that the passport will be delivering that day.
Tip: as they said do not book any holiday or at list give 2 month from the date you send your application. You will save a lots of stress and headache.

Overall experience was fine, with the exception of HMPO taking 2 weeks to register my documents as received after Royal Mail delivered the old documents.
My application was processed 2 weeks faster than my partner’s – both went to Bootle. Only difference was I uploaded a photo code from a proper place vs. uploading using a smartphone – I wonder if that was the reason mine was faster!

Issues with the digital identity system which meant the person confirming Id kept being rejected as ‘ineligible’. Eventually had print a paper form to confirm if which was completed, and accepted by the same person being rejected online. Contact centre advisors were little or no help. Really stressful.

Application was by checked post office but you can’t track on line doing it this way. Trying to contact passport office by phone is a nightmare. They say waiting time for call is 10 minutes and then after waiting 5 they cut you off due to high calls! 5 times in a day that happened. They need to get this sorted.

HMPO clearly cannot cope with demand and claim online applications quicker and easier well to make these claims the whole system needs to be customer friendly lack of updates causing unnecessary stress and worries as well as wasting time having a endless wait to speak to staff either under trained or pig headed to not give information on what is clearly our legal document. Ended with no tracking ref for delivery had to work out for myself and then delivered 2 days earlier so bit of bonus in the end.

Got professional pictures, Max Spielman because the online take-your-own-picture feature is shockingly bad. Do not pay to get it don’t at post office as they use the same system, its unlikely to get a photo that’s accepted first time.

Absolutely terrible service and one of the most stressful experiences! A staff member on the phone even admitted that they don’t process applications by date received. They “just put them in piles” and it’s all down to luck. Explains why some people’s get processed within 2 weeks and others (like mines) take 8 weeks. Can’t believe they’re getting away with providing such a terrible level of service. Sounds like the whole process needs an overhaul with proper systems put in place. Glad I don’t need to go through this hell for another 10 years!

Don’t lose hope, I had to replace my passport after already booking a holiday because funnily enough my dog got hold of it and had fun Chewing the corners! I submitted on 16th March. Sent my old passport signed for on the 17th and took 16 days for them to say they’d recieved it. I was panicking to say the least! 7 days later it was approved and printed a further 5 days later. They don’t update the website accordingly very often. TNT didn’t deliver mine it was DPD I got a text 14th April saying it was out for delivery and it did arrive.

I had no tracking until I received a text from DHL on day of delivery saying someone would need to sign for the delivery from HMPO.
I was 23 days from application to receiving, hope this gives reassurance that things can move faster than the average passport waiting times.
I can now catch my flight that leaves in 2 days!

Very stressful as my son booked holiday then couldn’t find his passport. 6 wks 5 days to holiday & average time 5 wks. I certainly had some sleepless nights. Couldn’t fault the service & the updates, although slow to start with did receive regular updates. I didn’t contact them as I put my trust in the process. This site has been my saviour as I checked this daily. 25 days from start to finish including a slight delay in having to re submit a photo as the previous one was rejected and to process the old one as lost.
Easy yes , stressful yes, but that’s down to the small window I had to receive it & nothing to do with the process.

Easy to follow process, any updates will come through on text/email as soon as they happen so don’t waste time logging in to track your progress. Main delay was waiting for old passport to be received. Using PEX no. to track on TNT was useful knowledge but the updates on the final mile page aren’t too helpful and may cause more confusion than help.

Ver happy with service as we submitted application as normal think it would arrive in 4 weeks and was informed by someone we cant do FastTrack application for Child first passport. But we had to travel soon for Family emergency so we explain everything to HM passport Office and gave them Medical report via email so application was approved next and and received passport day after.

It took 2 weeks to receive confirmation that our old passport had been received despite being signed for and we kept getting reminders to send our old documents, this was stressful as we thought it had been lost in their offices. It was ‘processing’ for over a month, then we found out it had been moved to Durham from Glasgow. Difficult to get through on the phone to anyone who knows what’s going on. Some staff were trying to be helpful, some were rude, some just hung up.

Numerous calls to the advice line but still no movement. Yesterday given upgrade office email to apply but will cost additional £102, so emailed with all details. Due to fly out 24/4/22 as a party of 40 as we are due to get married abroad but still waiting on sons passport. Hoping upgrade is granted and arrives in time.

Passport delivered on time 7 days after application; the stress was because of all I had read about courier delays; also TNT don’t text you with an exact delivery date and time; all I got was an HMPO text the day before saying expect delivery ‘in the next few working days’; would be heaps better to get a text from the courier at least with the day of delivery. But very happy, it all worked out.
