Pretty Stressful experience!!! Travelling on 26th June so am relieved it got here. Took multiple calls and emails to get there if I’m honest. Passport received around 9am on 22nd (today)
Received my supporting documents on the 15th due to constant calling and emailing. I recommend emailing the enquiries (found on website) a couple of times if you wish to get your supporting documents back beforehand. Also calling the advice line (pressing 8 then 3) gets you to speak to an advisor fairly quickly (can ask about documents to get back too), another good number for advice to call is 01633745709.
– when I got an email back from enquiries, I was able to reply to them and then get a response to this email hmpowebform@omni.eckoh.uk (this may not work but is worth a try) – I also had my interview around 12 on the 17th June, with it being approved later that day. When you get your interview booked (or get the letter in the post) youll be given a booking reference number – once you get this its worth trying to ring the interview line once a day to see if theyve had any interview cancellations you could take.

Hope this is of some use and can give you all some peace of mind or some kind of guidance. I do recommend to just keep calling up, if you have a holiday booked, tell them the date and they will make note. If you have an interview make sure you tell them when youre travelling, and also the interview line too. Good luck!!!! Xx

The process is easy (hence the 4 stars) but the lack of information (10 days to acknowledge receiving the documents, and 3 weeks to approve it …) Is quite appalling. In Spain you book one face to face interview and in 10 min you have the passport in hand, and only for €30. I don’t understand how it can take so long here….

2 child applications (1 first, 1 renewal) submitted on the same day. Frist passport was sent to Bootle which we manage to get back in the first week of June; however, the renewal was sent to Belfast and was stuck in processing for weeks. We’re due to travel soon, so I requested upgrade service on 16 June 2022, which cost £102 plus postage (as we couldn’t travel to local office that’s over 2hrs away) and the renewed passport has just been received today.
When Belfast office called me to take payment for the upgrade, I did ask if there was anything specific that caused the delay in the application, and was told that it was because they’re just overwhelmed by the number of applications so they work to prioritise those who are travelling soon. Whilst I could understand the pressure of the increase in workload for them, but this approach is causing so much stress to countless applicants and actually pushing a lot of applications to the brink of requiring upgrades (is costing applicants a great deal more cost, amidst the current ridiculous cost of living crisis).
All in all, we’re glad we finally got ours just in time for our travel but it could have easily been a disaster that would cost us 5K plus in expenses paid and not to mention countless sleepless nights of worry.

Applied online, old passport Sent to Peterborough office 20.05.2022, 1 week to acknowledge receipt after 1 day delivery. Photos taken on phone was a pain, as the app kept rejecting. Was then 3 weeks from receipt to email acknowledging that the applications was approved and a further week to say it had been printed. I chased 3 weeks after receipt using the online form on HMPO website and “coincidently” the next day I received an update that the passport application had been approved. Thanks to this site for helping me retain my sanity! i can’t see why HMPO can’t publish actual response times rather than making the nation stress and sweat it out!!!
