I used the full in store Post Office service which is filled out on a digital tablet form – they also take the photo for you and all supporting documents are sent via the Post Office tracked service. I believed this would be a faster way to apply as there is no manual entry/check required from a paper form – and my passport arrived almost 1 month from date of submission. Unfortunately not every Post Office that checks passport applications can do this digital form – https://www.postoffice.co.uk/identity/first-adult-passport
I had no information after the documents were updated as received on 24 June until it was approved on 19 July in the evening – the passport was printed the next morning and arrived at my house one day later. So at the moment, once approval happens it is very quick to arrive (1-2 days).
Please note: I am waiting for the return of my original documents including my UK naturalisation certificate and passport from my country of birth.

Honestly speaking, expected it to be quicker because all the renewals are now taking less than 10 days. This was first passport after naturalisation. Also, a family member who applied at exactly the same time as me hasn’t even received the “approved” notification.
My passport went to Bootle, looks like it’s quicker than other passport offices.

My bad for sending the supporting documents a month after I submitted the application. I had to keep my original passport for two business trips. The overall process caused no stress at all, everything went smoothly. It took only 4 weeks to get the ‘First Passport’. Expecting to get the rest of my supporting documents within the next 2 weeks.

Having read to leave up to 10 weeks, and expecting 3 and a half weeks on average having read the information on your website. I was pleasantly surprised to have sent off my old passport and received my new one within 5 days. I sent my passport on 1st Class post on Monday, I got a text to say it had been received on Tuesday 19th July. It was issued on Thursday and I receive the renewed passport on Friday 22nd July. Absolutely thrilled.

Waited so long for my passport, endless calls and emails where nobody got back to me. Emailing the expedited team after 10 weeks helped, but I still had to wait until 3 days before my holiday until I had a call from them, which was extremely stressful. And then I collected from Liverpool the next day. The phone call from expedited team and the staff at Liverpool passport office were all very helpful.

Had passport stolen end of April. Had travel booked at end of May. Bought an emergency travel document to return home but had to hand it at Gatwick. Tried to get fast track / premium appt but couldn’t. Webchat advised going the normal route and then call the helpline and ask for upgrade etc. – completely incorrect advice. At each phone call to the helpline we were given different advice. Was told it was at one HMPO office then it was somewhere else. Nobody ever said that your application had to be in system for at least 6 weeks – had they done that then the wife wouldn’t have wasted hours on the phone trying to get through, but on that I also think the 6 weeks thing shouldn’t apply to stolen passports – wasn’t our fault & can prove they were stolen. Missed my travel in May. After wife reading all people’s experiences on Twitter & through the forum waited until it got to 10 weeks and sent email to Expedited Service and Liverpool Upgrade team – wife also emailed MP on Friday 15th July. MP team called HMPO on Wednesday 20th. Got a call from Upgrade Team on 21st & was approved straight after. Printed 22nd (haven’t received yet). Unsure whether it was the MP who raised the profile of the application or the emails to HMPO but all in all a very stressful time.

Had passports stolen abroad. Had to use an Emergency Travel Document (Question-why can’t you continue to use this until new passport arrives (I understand they must have an expiry date but they take from you when you return home but was valid until end of August). Applied on return. Used web chat multiple times to see what was happening with it and for 9 weeks it was waiting to be examined. On 16th July – 9w 5d later it was finally approved. Printed 3 days later and arrived the following day. Overall a very stressful experience.

Who gave me upgrade email for Durham- Emailed- following day 21/07, examiner called and approved. I asked what delay was- they had to clarify something with the counter signature- they have had this info since 19/04! Shocking that it took 13 weeks to clarify and causing so much stress!
