It was a stressful process as wed booked a holiday before renewing the passport. I’m not too sure if the website updates efficiently enough and I wasn’t able to get through via telephone due to high phone call volumes no matter what time I called but i did receive it pretty quickly. Now just waiting on my daughters first passport that was submitted at the same time but only updated to documents received a few days ago despite everything being done at the same time.

Worst part was waiting for them to acknowledge the documents had been received, especially has Royal Mail had failed to scan them in when delivered. Once documents marked as received, it felt like it was progressing quickly every other day or so.

Posted old passport the same day using next day signed for service. Royal mail tracking showed old passport arrived at Hemel Hempstead passport office on the 13/4/22.
There was then a gap of one week before my Passport application status changed to “Documents received” on 20/4/22
During this time I had a couple of emails reminding me to send my old passport which I ignored because I had already sent it.
Things moved fast after that:
Received text on 22/4/22 with status: Application Approved
Received text on 24/4/22 with status: Passport Printed
Received text on 26/4/22 to say passport with TNT courier and our for delivery. Passport arrived at my house at lunchtime 26/4/22
Tips;
Use the passport office guidance to take a good photo – the website will give you feedback to whether yours is a good photo or not.
Your unique passport application number is part of the address you use to send your old passport off – be sure to print it large and clear.
Use Royal Mail signed for delivery for posting your old passport for your own your own peace of mind that it has got there safely.
I was extremely happy and surprised to get it in 2 weeks but I would say follow all the guidance and don’t delay applying if you need a passport. Good luck.

Website stated five weeks to receive the passport when I applied, and mine came just within that time frame.
Applying for a babies first passport as a sleep deprived mum I had no idea about the whole 10 weeks and the passport office delays, so when a family member informed me, I got rather stressed out. I needn’t have lost (more) sleep over it though, as it did arrive on time in the end but took a while for my documents to be logged, and over two weeks to be approved after that.

First delay was after completing the application I had to send my birth certificate which I couldn’t find and so delayed documents being sent by 3.5 weeks as had to order one. Would be useful to know what documents I was going to be required to send before starting the application. There was a 2 week delay in Royal Mail confirming delivery and passport office updating the system. That was stressful but after reading forums/twitter it’s a standard amount of time but when you don’t know it’s a worry and started to presume documents lost. Wait times increased from 5 weeks to 10 weeks from when I applied, that again caused stress and I am still to determine if the 10 weeks is from application submission or documents received!? Called on lots of occasions due to things I was reading and was cut off over 50 times as call centre was busy and when did get through was on hold for 1.5 hours, the email came to say application approved when still on hold so hung up.
I think I worried myself more reading the news/Twitter and forums and maybe created myself unnecessary stress but as you don’t know the stages it needs to go through you don’t have a clue where you are in the process. Frustrating not being able to speak to anyone. Will NEVER book a holiday whilst waiting for a renewal, it’s just too stressful.

Moderately stressful as on holiday 10 May, I phoned after 4 weeks where only ‘Documents received’ was on the tracker. They put a note on the application and was all very quick after that, may have been a coincidence as it was all still within the initial 5 week estimate. I will not leave so late next time but very happy to receive with a couple of weeks still to go before travelling, relieved!
