Easy to renew online. Applied on 5th March and sent old passport straight away (via Royal Mail track and trace). Even though this was received on 7th March the first message from the passport office saying they had received documents was on 22nd March. The passport was approved the next day on 23th March. On the 29th March old passport was received back. Then it took until 31st March for the passport to get printed. Received passport (via TNT) the next day on 1st April.

Although it looks a long time, I did not send my old passport off then. They received the documents on Monday 14th March, and then the process began and arrived with me the morning of April 1st.

Sent my passport off by recorded delivery as soon as I made the application on 28/2. The passport tracking system didn’t update with ‘documents received’ until 17/3. TNT tried to deliver twice to the wrong block on 30/3 and 31/3 (we have a problematic post code), finally got it on the third attempt 1/4. Still awaiting return of my other (foreign) passport.

Submitted earlier than the current average wait times. Submitted application 24th February as planned to fly on 5th April. On 28th March we got a message saying the passport had been printed and would be transferred to the courier “within a few days”. Heard nothing so on the fourth day phoned the passport advice line. It was very much “computer says no”, the lady said she has no way of tracking it and sorry but she cannot help us in any way. I asked if we’d just have to wait and see if it turned up and if it didn’t turn up we wouldn’t be able to travel so she said yes that’s right. I also asked her to confirm we would definitely get a message when the passport had been dispatched and she said yes definitely. In the meantime I read lots of negative online reviews about TNT the courier and them losing passports which didn’t fill me with much hope, The passport was then unexpectedly delivered the following day (day 5 after being printed). We were just so relieved at this point to have received it but it isn’t great that we received no notification that it had been dispatched (and have checked Junk, spam folders etc). In fact I’d even been online to track the application 15 minutes before it was delivered and it still said the status was “passport printed” and that we had to wait to get a dispatch notification and tracking info. It still says that now! The time that it took to get the passport was not the issue, it’s the poor communication throughout the process that needs to be improved. It caused a lot of (unnecessary) worry and anxiety for the family as nobody was telling us anything (and if they did, it was wrong!) and we were unsure if we would even get the passport in time to travel and if we’d have to cancel our trip last minute. Am just glad the passport eventually arrived but the communication from the passport office (and the courier) leaves a lot to be desired and needs to be improved.
(I would add that this site was helpful as I did see a few people on here who applied on the same day as me and they received theirs this week and also didn’t receive tracking info which did give me some hope that we might get the passport in time).

Whether or not your photo gets approved seems to be a complete joke. Ours apparently passed the initial test but then was rejected twice.
