The above refers to my application, my wife did hers 3 days later and experienced the same 2 week turnaround. Both were online applications. The passport Office sent several very clear updates on where our passports were in the process. Only criticism is that the AI they use to give a preliminary assessment of the photo submitted is a nonsense. The comment was that my wife’s photo was very poor and it looked as though her eyes were closed. The complete opposite was the case. The application was accepted.

I submitted a surname change after marriage. I also requested my middle name to be removed via a cover letter when sending my documents (I was told after that I could have requested the middle name removal in the any other info box on the online application). After receiving my marriage certificate, they then asked for proof of name change and asked me to send 2 documents to prove I’ve been using my new name in the past 12 months such as utility bills, bank statement etc. So, I would recommend changing your name with other organisations prior to submitting your passport so you have these ready and it doesn’t delay your application.
