Used standard online renewal application and posted old passport the same day under secure delivery at 4.50 pm on Tuesday 29th August and received new passport in post the following Monday 4th September. Excellent service!

Actual online application process very straightforward. My issue was photograph. Even the professional one was questioned as I have white hair against a pale background, not enough contrast apparently. Had to phone to confirm it was OK. Bit stressful but sorted in the end. Tracking system superb

Got my picture done at Timpsons – they upload the picture and give an online code.
Applied online.
Sent old passport same day using next day / tracking / signature.
Received status messages and reminders every day
Changed home delivery to collect from local post office
All very easy.

All very easy, only really frustrating part is that even with planning and renewing with time left on your old passport you are still without one while waiting for the new one as you have to send the old one in before they look at your application. But everything was quick, and I was kept fully up to date with texts and emails etc.

Online application was very easy and I like that you can submit own photo. All timelines by Passport office were acceptable from the moment they received my old passport to despatching the new one. Return delivery by DHL very fast. Only thing I would recommend to people applying is that I used Czech Post/Royal Mail to get my old passport there and it took 9 days. DHL would have cost a lot more (approx £55 vs approx £7) but it would have reduced my waiting time probably by almost a week.
