Finally received mine and daughter’s passport after exactly 3 months since applying around mid March. Just simple renewals. Its crazy the seasons have changed to get the passport.

After all that the color is Burgundy (Was hoping it would be blue)

A few issues with DHL but was resolved very easily. Once the application is “approved,” things just proceed as you imagine it would, quite smoothly. Until then though the uncertainty is unbearable!! It should not be like that even amidst the covid crisis. If your going to take 2/3/4/5 months for a passport you should make it more transparent. I didn’t mind waiting provided it was for a finite period of time. The uncertainty I just couldn’t take it.

Old passports should be on their way by middle of coming week (god willing). Which will bring this saga to an end.

Oh! it seems my passport has been printed on 4th June and being sent by DHL (to Dubai).
However the passport has been sent back to PO because it doesn’t have my “full” name.
Only first name initial and Surname.

    Anyone experienced something similar?

I guess its not over till its over!

My daughter’s, done at the same time, is on its way. Should receive by mid next week.

    Dear All,

I have been posting on this forum almost since it first started.
Finally mine and my daughter’s has been approved. Timeline below:
    Application history

    Application approved 2:37pm on 3 June 2020
Application being processed 8:09am on 23 March 2020
    Documents received 3:30pm on 20 March 2020
    Application received 6:37am on 15 March 2020
    Application submitted 6:37am on 15 March 2020

It will be almost 3 months since I started the process. It would have taken even longer, however thanks to the recommendations from some posts in this forum I used twitter to express my case.

When I tried the passport help line by telephone I was treated with complete disdain. As soon as they deduced that my application was from overseas they didn’t want to listen to anything. The answer was simply WAIT!

The irony is that it is the overseas applicants that on the “whole” (i know each case is different) probably require a quicker and more efficient service. Even prior to the covid guidlines there is no “express” services for applicants from overseas.
Visa issues and ID checks all are standard procedures which come with the hassles of living abroad. It seems really unfair. May be the government look at it that citizens living abroad don’t contribute as much economically. But if its a money thing just charge. It may feel like extortion to some but the service has to be better and the option must be there.

This is actually the second time that the passport office has significantly delayed my application. On the previous occasion (spring/summer 2014) they took almost 4 months to send my sons passport who was newborn. In Dubai (where I live) it is illegal for newborns to not have a valid visa after 120 days from birth. Even then it would have taken longer still but we had to involve the local FCO and seek their guidelines.

Its just so stressful when it comes to renewing/getting passports. Other countries even the so called “developing” ones it is a virtually hassle free process (even during this covid crisis). I know this because the company I work for has many employees from all over the world.

Im sorry my post has been so long but I owe this forum, because of the relevant information I have been able to extract. I’m sure more better things can come from it and the passport office if they have any sense of self worth must be aware of the trends on social media. This can only be done by sharing as much as possible and creating discussion.

    Thank you

Shazzalats I’m in a similar situation. I submitted renewal applications for my daughter and I from Dubai. It was to Liverpool also.
It was being “processed” one working day after yours on 23rd March. I submitted before the lockdown

Rob who also submitted to Liverpool from Germany a couple of days before us received his. So I am hoping that we will receive some good news soon.

    @Rob
I don’t know what the lockdown rules are in Germany but you must be celebrating!!

I’m really hoping if the wait goes into June the lockdown rules have been relaxed more and things start to get processed faster.

I have to express my disappointment NOT at the waiting, because we are in an unprecedented situation. However they (passport office) have to taken no accountability for the approximate waiting times and how things are progressing.
If they sent a periodic reminder such as: “your application is X out of XXX anticipated waiting time XXX.” That would be really helpful.

I need my passport mainly to present to the banks for ID purpose, due to the current financial situation but I am not able to do so. All is on hold until they see original ID. A copy of old passport in not sufficient.

Rob it seems I’m in a similar situation to you

Application being processed 8:09am on 23 March 2020
    Documents received 3:30pm on 20 March 2020
    Application received 6:37am on 15 March 2020
    Application submitted 6:37am on 15 March 2020

However I am still waiting on the approval. Since you are from Overseas also did you send your old passport to Liverpool?

The only consolation is at least people are starting to receive their passports. Which means they are working on it

jtphelella, surely by June you may receive the passport before you travel. 2 months may still be enough as it has not been even a month for you.

I am in similar situation, applied for 2 passport renewals (my daughter and I) on 20th March. However it says still being processed. I wish they were more clear about waiting times.

I need my passport for ID purpose with the bank (due to current financial situation) and soon for my visa renewal as I am living in Dubai. I am however unable to this.
