Was stressful on my behalf as i was needing to travel 3rd august and hadn’t realised my issue date was over ten years ago. Applied in hope it would arrive, it didn’t update for a week from them receiving my old passport so i got in touch on the wednesday and a nice lady popped a note on to say i was travelling on the sunday, passport turned around and arrived by 10 am on the Friday! Was such a relief!

after stressing so much and checking the facebook forum for this website i preemptively sent a letter explaining the water damage instead of waiting for the examiner to approve my application or not by asking for a letter as this delays the process by weeks. i used tracked 24 to send letter and called several times to check it had been scanned in. also called several times to get royal mail dispatch number as different to passport application number to track when royal mail sends. took 17 days which cut it close – definitely preemptively send letter, keep calling and post everything priority.

Applied online on the 2nd and sent my documents (passport and marriage cert for name change) 24hr signed for on the 3rd of August. As this was a Sunday this arrived at the passport office on Tuesday the 5th (as per Royal Mail).
The passport office updated me to say they had received my documents on Wednesday the 6th.
My application was approved on the 13th of August and was printed and dispatched today (14th of August), I received a Royal Mail text informing me it would be delivered tomorrow (Friday the 15th of August).
All in all it has taken less than 2 weeks and I had regular text/email updates from the passport office throughout. Very easy!
