– Sat 29th July – submitted digital application with digital photo (using photo booth code) and sent old passport via recorded delivery (but due to a weekend it was expected to arrive Tues 1st Aug).
– Tues 1st Aug – they confirmed receipt of old passport.
– Wed 2nd Aug – application was approved.
– Wed 2nd Aug – passport printed.
– Thurs 3rd Aug – passport arrived!
Quick simple service! Shame it’s so pricey for a renewal.

I used the cheapest service, as the Fast Track and Same Day are not really what they’re billed as. They cost significantly more, but it wasn’t possible to get an appointment for either, in less than 2 weeks, without flying to Scotland, so doesn’t help in getting a speedy passport. Instead, I gave up and just opted for the regular service that said it would take up to 10 weeks. I used Snappy Snaps for my photo and they gave me a code to input into the application, giving the passport office direct access to the photo. I sent them my old passport by Special Delivery for £6 the same day. They received it the next morning. I paid an extra £5 to have them send me my new passport using a tracked service (though why that’s not simply standard and part of the cost is baffling to me – it’s a passport!). Anyway, couldn’t have been more efficient. Completed my online application on Monday afternoon, they approved it on Tuesday morning, printed it on Wednesday and despatched it and I received it first thing this morning, Thursday. Pretty impressed.

Submitted my application on the same day as my dads, my passport was sent to Hemel Hempstead, my dads was sent to Corby. My dad received his back within 9 days, mine took 23 days with several phone calls to chase, only got approved when I stated k was going to make a compliant. Whilst I appreciate they have up to 10 weeks to approve passports, clearly the offices are not working to the same SLA standards which I think is a very bad customer experience and causes unnecessary stress.
