Can’t believe the application was done on a Friday afternoon, posted the old passport that day too and today we thought they had returned the old one but it was the new one. Can’t believe how quick it was.

Old passport posted around 7pm on 5 Jan 2024 with the Post box showing collection at 7am the following morning (Sat 6 Jan). It hadn’t been collected at 1033, but did get collected before the following afternoon, so at least it was on its way over the weekend.
Documents received – 6:21pm on 10 January 2024
Application approved – 9:03am on 15 January 2024
Passport printed – 12:33am on 16 January 2024
Passport received – around 10:55am on 16 January 2024
This started off a little tense as I was filling out advanced passenger information for a ski holiday booked just before Christmas when it became clear that there wasn’t enough time left on the passport. Worse still the booking confirmation had taken weeks to arrive due to ‘IT trouble over the break’. It was three weeks before departure day.
This site gave some confidence that things might get done on time 🙂
The web form for renewal was very straightforward, and gave some positive feedback that the photo would be OK.
It took a few days longer than the expected postal time for the old passport to show up as received, which left me wishing I’d paid for a tracked service (but that would have delayed things on sending).
Then another few (working) days waiting for approval.
Things aren’t flowing straight through the process. But the queues seem manageable at 2-3 days for the receiving and approval steps.

Comments:
Very easy renewal, quick and fast. Only negative was Royal Mail’s very poor tracking and proof of delivery of old passport and supporting documents.

Although it went through fairly smoothly I did have to send extra address information by courier as my Turkish ID doesn’t show my address despite the requirement as showing “please send 1 document from the following list showing either/or evidence of residency or address” Christmas/New year delayed my initial documents by about a week too. Found the do it yourself electronic photo system stressy too as even using a professional photographer it was impossible to know whether they would be acceptable – They were. Most stress I think was from being unable to anyone from UK passports during the process which in fact went smoother & far faster than I expected.
