I live in the UK. I am dual national. In addition to my UK passport I was required to send a colour photocopy of my foreign passport as a supporting document. This has changed for the better since summer 2023 when the guidance stated the original foreign passport had to be submitted. Unfortunately the passport application form does not advise that any difference in name between the passports will now lead to the UK application being rejected due to a new Name policy brought in by the Home Office in 2015. So 9 days after my submission HMPO asked for more supporting documents regarding the name difference. I was able to submit this quickly thankfully and my application was approved. My passport was issued with an official observation covering the name difference. Overall very speedy turnarounds and frequent emails and text to advise on application status, but HMPO should be much more transparent on the application form about highlighting that name differences will not be ordinarily accepted and applicants will now be required to change foreign passports to match their UK passport before requesting UK renewal.

Incredibly speedy! It would have been even quicker if I’d posted my passport off the same day. I used a photo booth with a code so I was confident my photo would be okay.

Application submitted Monday 11th December with coded photo,which I think was worth the money to get it done and so easy. Application approved Tuesday 12th December in morning. Sent old passport back 24hr recorded delivery. Email recieved Wednesday 13th December to say passport office has recieved old passport. Email Wedsnesday evening say new passport being printed. Thursday 14th December email from passport office saying new passport sent out. Friday 15th December new passport arrived at local post office and old passport arrived at home seperately. Overall excellent service and quick whilst being kept informed during the process. So easy online to do it

We live in France and sent my old passport to UK on 27th November., it took the French post 10days to get it to the UK instead of the 4 days they had told me. So I was panicking as we have travel planned.
However once the UK passport office received my documents on 6th Dec 2023 I received the new passport on 15th Dec. which was absolutely brilliant. So efficient.
My advice to anyone abroad wanting to get a quick turnaround is to pay extra for your passport to be sent by a courier with next day guarantee. Once it get to the UK, they’re very quick. That’s what I would do in the future if I had to do it again.
