Was really not optimistic about getting my newborn son’s passport in time for our planned holiday at the end of September but was really pleasantly surprised how quick the Durham office dealt with it! 16 days from applying to receiving it. We had no special circumstances- didn’t make any complaints and didn’t have anything booked to make them fast track it. Over the moon! Only a bit sad the new passports are black and my son wont have a burgundy one like his mam and dad!

Application History- Passport received same day as we received the returned birth certificate – Mon 10th August

Passport printed and sent 1:35pm on 6 August 2020
    Application approved 10:02am on 5 August 2020
    Documents received 9:45am on 31 July 2020
    Application received 12:45pm on 25 July 2020
Identity details received 12:45pm on 25 July 2020
Email sent to person confirming your identity 11:14am on 25 July 2020
Ask someone to confirm your identity 11:10am on 25 July 2020

I have a 4 week old baby who I am still unable to register the birth for due to Covid related delays And backlogs, but have an appointment to do so next week. Once I have his birth certificate I will be applying for a passport for him as we are looking to go abroad at the end of September. Does anyone have recent experience of applying for a first child passport at Durham to give me an idea of how long the processing takes at this office specifically for a first child passport at the minute?
    Thanks
