Finally got my good news just minutes ago that my passport has been approved. It was a renewal sent to Peterborough on the 28th March, processing since 7th April and with numerous chases and escalations and written proof I needed it for government work purposes.

It was an adult renewal with change of surname due to marriage. Anything that isn’t a standard renewal and requires manual intervention and assessment (such as a name change) is still subject to delays.

    Good luck everyone!

I had a call from the passport Office yesterday about my application after I messaged them on Twitter.

Standard renewals should be going through with minimal delays now. It’s more complex cases, like my renewal with a surname change due to marriage which requires manual intervention and checks which are still subject to delays.

So those with standard renewals, you should be seeing movement. Those like me who have a name change or change in circumstance, it’s likely to be longer.

My application has now been escalated with written evidence of a need for work purposes so I can start the new job, but has still not been Approved yet.

Mine is over 8 weeks in the being processed stage. All I can do now is just wait and hope again.

This complete unfairness around waiting times is making me incredibly angry.

Good to hear that more people are getting approved, but still soul destroying to see the lack of consistency and logic even at the same offices.

Tomorrow will mark 8 weeks since my status turned to ‘being processed’ at Peterborough.

Still can’t start my new role because I still can’t provide my passport in my new married name.

    So frustrating 🙁

Yes 7th of April turned to processing, no update or change for me either yet but I will notify this forum as soon as I hear anything.

Fingers crossed we both get good news early next week!

Rjo – your application went to processing the day before mine at Peterborough so I will keep everyone updated as to if mine gets approved in the next few days

Mine is a renewal with a name change after marriage and documents sent to Peterborough and turned to application processing on the 7th April.

That make it 7 weeks and 2 days so maybe if mine goes to approved sometime in the next week or so, it will add support to that expected 8 week timeframe.

I will keep you all updated!

I’m sure they will and civil servants often get an extra day for the queens birthday too so some people take the Friday and some take the Tuesday so it might be quiet until Wednesday I am afraid 😟

I feel your pain – i need my passport as photo ID to start a new job as I can’t complete onboarding checks without it. I have Security Clearance which is updated to my new surname, but I need photo ID that aligns to that new surname.

Hopefully it won’t be too much longer

Our applications both went to Peterborough and both turned to processing on the same day. I too am still waiting so let’s keep each other updated if we hear anything!

This has really surprised me seeing as my renewal is with Peterborough and has been stuck in processing since early April 🙁

It seems increasingly obvious that which office you send documents to is a big contributing factor in wait times. It would be helpful if we all share this information when giving updates to assess any patterns or likely processing times.

    My details:-
Type of application: Adult renewal with name change due to marriage
    Nationality: British And UK based
    Office Documents sent to: Peterborough

Application submitted and received date: 28/03/20
    Documents received: 06/04/20
    Application being processed: 07/04/20

No further update received since that date

    Days since application: 52
Days since status changed to ‘being processed’ = 42

Anyone else submitted to Peterborough and been approved since lockdown started?

This makes me hopeful as I submitted mine the same day on the 28th March – do you know which office was dealing with it – where did you have to send your documents?

    Thanks for updating everyone

Hi, it was Peterborough I sent my documents to.

I did call the helpline, they couldn’t tell me anything or offer any advice or estimated wait times. Good to see some applications are getting approved from mid March submission, hopefully mine might not be too much longer.

I will be sure to update the forum if I see any change in status.

    Thanks

I am UK based British applicant and I applied for an adult renewal on the 28th of March following getting married at the end of February and needing to get a new passport in my new married name.

Documents were confirmed as received on the 6th of April

I am still awaiting an update and the status is still ‘Your application is being processed’.

I am waiting to start a new job but cannot until I receive the passport as I need a photo ID. I also cannot apply for an alternative photo ID (such as driving licence) as the passport office still have my marriage certificate.

Only comms I have received is the texts and emails asking me not to contact the passport office so I am just stuck, unable to start my new job on complete clearance.

I appreciate the current situation is unprecedented and I know everyone is doing all they can – but I would really appreciate any suggestions on how I can find a way forward.

    Many thanks
