I can’t believe it. Application approved today. Will arrive at 9 tomorrow so the email from the expedite team (see above) was correct! It has taken blood sweat and tears to get this passport.
It was the email to the expedite team that did it. For info, no proof of travel provided but annual leave booked for next week. It was 10 weeks on Wednesday since application submitted, not documents received as I was constantly told by the call centre. Thank you to everyone on this forum, your experiences helped me so much!
Tips :
1. Don’t bother calling. They can’t help you and can’t access anything but very basic information. As a result they will say anything to get you off the phone,
2. Don’t wait until 10 weeks to chase. I began at 8. Try your MP too. I did and it may have helped.
3. Don’t give up. Keep emailing the expedite/upgrade teams.
4. Try filling in an online complaint form.If I didn’t need a holiday before this experience, I certainly do now. The best of luck to all those still waiting.

Just had a response from the expedited team to an email dated 19.7 saying they are going to one of their examination teams to progress asap. It is 10 weeks tomorrow. Is that good do we think? Any one else had the same email? Should I be optimistic?
Really please that you finally got your daughter’s renewal! I’m in a similar situation ie child renewal 10 weeks tomorrow since receiving online. I have also been emailing various people and departments for the last couple of weeks. I will try the expedite team again tomorrow. Persistence is the key I think….I’m still keeping everything crossed in the meantime….
I have just submitted a step 2 complaint. Found out this morning that because the birth cert wasn’t received until 25th July they have re-set the clock to a 10 week processing time from 25th July. The situation is appalling. The application for a renewal was submitted online on 25th May. Old passport sent within a few days and identity verified on 12th June. Then complete silence until 22nd July when for some reason they asked for my daughter’s birth certificate. I have sent 14 emails to various departments today and my MP, who I must say responded immediately. I’m not giving up until It arrives. It is disgraceful when others are getting them back within days. They basically did nothing for 8 weeks and it’s week 10 next week but I’m being told I can do nothing now for a further 10 weeks. I have emailed the upgrade team at Liverpool in the hope that someone might take pity on me….

Small update. They rang! Need my daughter’s birth certificate. No idea why but I sent it straight away. Why they couldn’t have asked for that 8 weeks ago I don’t know, but I am keeping everything crossed that it will be processed quickly now and we can book a holiday! I’ll keep everyone here posted. I have rung, emailed and contacted my MP so I do think persistence is the key here.
@Jezzreal thank you so much for posting such useful information. I too have not booked due to the advice, but need to book and go in the school hols. Was told today that I can’t do anything until 10 weeks after docs received and then only if travel booked. Out of interest when did you contact the emails you have provided ? Was it week 10 or before?

Delighted that you have your passport!Another update. The progress team actually rang. Again very nice but no joy. Can’t ask to expedite until 10 weeks after docs received not application. Need proof of travel which we don’t have as we obeyed through gov advice! It’s bonkers. Just got to sit and wait. I will try to contact the Durham office at 10 weeks though. Hoping I’ll get it by then …… anyway thought I would share this experience so far
@rabbia1992 hi it was the general number on the website. Listen to the options and then select “any other query “ which was option 8.
Little update. I rang the general number and got through straight away using option 8. Nice man answered. Explained that it was 8 weeks but no updates on tracking since 12th June. Man expressed concern as it is a straightforward renewal and documentation received and proof of identity. He tried to put me through to the progress team, all lines busy of course. He emailed them with the scenario and has requested a call back, so we will see. I’m hoping that at least someone will look at it and get things moving again! I will let you know! I’m going to keep trying- not giving up yet!
@Upsidedown thank you for replying. Hopefully reassuring that proof of travel not required after 10 weeks. I got a bit cheeky and emailed the expedited team (silly of me) it’s only 8 weeks. I got this standard acknowledgment:
“We can only consider expediting an application if you submitted your application at least 10 weeks ago.”
I will try again on 3rd August. Doesn’t give me much time though! I’m not hopeful that we are going to get the passport in time to book a holiday Darent tell my daughter! It’s sooooo frustrating when other people I know have had theirs within a fortnight. I just don’t get it.I could do with some advice please. submitted daughters renewal online 25th MAy. docs sent and identity verified. No updates since 12th June. We foolishly took the advice of the passport office and didn’t book a holiday. We are prepared to book last minute, but due to school holidays need to go in August. Can we still ask for an expedited appliction after the 10 week deadline? I noticed Helly87 wasn’t asked for proof of travel? What should we say? Any suggestions gratefully received. What a ridiculous situation it all is. Will be gutted if we can’t go anywhere. Like everyone else, it’s been a long time….. thank you
