    Hi,

I applied online so I’m not familiar with paper applications, but I have done a quick internet search. I did apply for a lost passport though and I can say that they are not processing lost applications until they reach 2 weeks before travel and are upgraded.

Have you completed the form on the .gov website to check its progress?
    https://passportofficeforms.service.gov.uk/_/track-application.ofml

Don’t click any of the relevant options on the customer service number for the passport office. Instead Press option 8 and then option 3 to speak to a human being. They cannot do much but be very polite and firm. Explain it is urgent. At this stage ask them to confirm whether your application has been received and ask which office is processing your application.

15 days before you fly (6th July in your case) call the same number and advise you were told to upgrade your application because it is 2 weeks before travel and tell them how many weeks ago you applied (they should send a message to the office where your application is processing). Once you have done this the following day – 14 days before travel (7th July) email the passport office upgrade email address for where your application is being processed. The email should include an attached PDF of your travel document and the below information:

Subject line of email should be: URGENT UPGRADE: Flight DD/MM/YYYY

    Full Name:
    DOB:
    Contact Number:
    Email address:
    Reference Number:
Date of Travel and Proof of Flight (actual PDF not a screenshot):
Last day able to collect passport:

Mine was at Peterborough so the email was: PeterboroughUpgradeTeam@hmpo.gov.uk
NOTE: the email addresses are case sensitive so copy the above format, you should receive an automated response.

That’s the best advise i can give. I did this with my own application (applied 29th April – Fly 12th July) was in submitted stage up until i emailed the upgrade team on 28th June – was approved 2.5 hours later, printed on 29th June and then deliver this afternoon (30th June) at 12:30pm.

Sorry for the novel i’ve written but i hope this helps!!!

    Good luck!

You can also use the webchat and just ask them which office is processing your application (link below)

    https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-passport-office/contact/hm-passport-office-webchat

I applied 29th April, was left in ‘identity details received’ I fly 12th July so called the mainline using the options mentioned by jomc2571 on 27th June and then emailed the upgrade team for where my application was processing and my application was approved 2.5 hours after my email, printed 29th June and i just received it today (30th June) around 12:30pm.

NOTE: when you speak to an advisor on the phone advise them you need an urgent upgrade and tell them how many weeks ago you applied and when you travel. – they will not give you the upgrade email. You need to email them unprompted and supply them with a PDF of your travel document this has to show your name on and date of travel and the below info:

Subject line of email should be: URGENT UPGRADE: Travel DD/MM/YYYY

    Full Name:
    DOB:
    Contact Number:
    Email address:
    Application Reference Number:
Date of Travel and Proof of Flight (actual PDF not a screenshot):
Last day able to collect passport:

The upgrade emails addresses all have the same format for example Peterborough is: PeterboroughUpgradeTeam@hmpo.gov.uk

Keep in mind they are case sensitive so copy the above format for whichever office is processing your application.

    I hope this helps 🙂

    Hi,

I think it would be a great idea to have an additional average and experience page for lost/stolen passports.

After collating some of the data from forum posts, it appears the passport office is generally not processing lost/stolen passport applications until they are ‘fast-tracked’ for an additional £101.

A very different experience than the ‘Adult renewal’ stats suggest.

    Hi All,

Use the webchat service! my application moved from ‘identity details received’ to ‘processing’ the same day.

Also, on the webchat ask them which office your application has been assigned to, mine is current at Peterborough.

If it gets to 2 weeks before you fly and it has not been approved or sent call them and request to upgrade to fast track or premium (fast track £67, premium £102).

I’m hoping mine is not stuck in processing for too long. :/

    Best wishes,

    Rosina

    Hi all,

In my experience they do not automatically associate the lost passport ref number with the new application.

After calling multiple times and getting nowhere i used the webchat service, supplied my passport cancellation ref and my application moved from ‘identity details received’ to ‘processing’ in the same day (after being sat in the previous stage for 2 weeks). My application has now been allocated to the Peterborough office.

So if your application has been stuck on a stage for a while, use the webchat service and give them the reference number :).

    Best wishes.

    Hi Jennifer,

I am not sure whether this will help you or not. However, you are further along in the process than I.

I made my application for a lost passport renewal online on 29th April and my tracker only shows ‘Application Submitted’ and ‘Identity Details Received’.

My understanding is that the process is different whether you made your application online or using the paper form. Did you cancel the stolen passports before applying for replacements? If so was this online or using a paper form?

I have done some digging online in trying to figure out if there is something wrong with my own application and found two process guidance documents aimed at staff (these tell the staff what to do).

    Cancelling British Passports: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cancellation-of-passports

    – Scroll down and open the document named ‘Cancelling British passports’ – contents page is helpful

Lost, stolen and recovered passports: examiner guidance: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/lost-stolen-and-recovered-passports-examiner-policy

    – Scroll down and open the document named ‘How to replace lost, stolen and recovered passports’ – Page 11 states how they examine the applications

From what I have gathered so far, you need to cancel your stolen passports FIRST and receive a reference number that usually begins with ‘L’. This is then associated with the renewal/replacement application. I called and provided the reference number to an advisor over the phone today after reading a forum post where an application was just sat pending because of this.

I hope this was helpful 🙂 and fingers crossed!

    Best wishes,

    Rosina

    Hi,

I applied for a lost passport on 29th April. My application hasn’t even reached the processing stage yet.

I called this morning after reading a thread where the cancellation reference does not transfer over. The advisor told me he had added the reference to my application. They have received it but it just hasn’t been processed yet. He also advised I wouldn’t need to send any documents in and that it’s a straight forward renewal.

I am so stressed as it was 10 weeks from when I fly when I submitted the application :(, I am now on 8 weeks and still no progress!

    Current tracking stage below:

Identity details received 10:43am on 29 April 2022
Email sent to person confirming your identity 9:58am on 29 April 2022
Email sent to person confirming your identity 9:12am on 29 April 2022
Ask someone to confirm your identity 8:45am on 29 April 2022
    Application submitted 8:45am on 29 April 2022
