Posted old passport on 28/11/2022 via Royal Mail Special Delivery 1PM but they lost the package ! Logged the passport as “Lost” on 06/12/2022 and had to ring the Passport helpline to update the application with the lost reference number. The longest wait was for Royal Mail to return my old passport. Once it had been received, my new passport arrived within 3 days (not 10 weeks as published on the .gov website…)Type of Application:

5 Star – Very EasyHi, thanks, I am pleased you have found this forum helpful. The return of your old passport and also other supporting documents is something covered in the letter. However, I think the reason they don’t send the old with the new is for security reasons in case they both get lost in the post.
Thank you for the really helpful feedback. We are going to start collecting data for lost/stolen passports and will display an average once we have sufficient data.
