@SBen2210 – could be my typing the number is 0300 105 0850 (apologies i think I put 150) sometimes it connects others it says the call volumes are too high, keep trying and eventually it’ll work, always a long wait on hold though when you do. Or call bang on 8am

Just wanted to drop a note to the forum for anyone giving up hope, we’ve finally had some success after 10 weeks waiting and within the 14 days of travel (flying on 4th) ! We’ve been passed from pillar to post but my best advice if you are getting close to travel and not heard anything use the 0300 150 0850 number, also if you haven’t had the acknowledgement email from upgrades re-sent the info. We submitted an upgrade on 20th with no confirmation of receipt, after all the help on here we thought it strange so re-sent last night at 5pm and got the email back… 9am this morning the passport has been approved and is being printed, the only slight worry is that its gone to post rather than allowing us to collect as we requested, however, about 5 minutes after tracking updated Mohammed from the 0850 number who we spoke to on the 20th called us to say not to worry as its being printed today and will be posted via the next day service. So much advice and help on this forum its been amazing and I can’t thank everyone enough for the help!

Hoping everyone else gets sorted, I’d honestly given up

I’m confused by this 48 acknowledgement, we submitted my sons for upgrade last Monday based on advice from the 0300 150 0850 number to Durham, as we flew within 14 days (now 7) we are over 10 weeks and been processing more than 6… we rang the same number this morning and were told the 48 hour acknowledgement isn’t a thing anymore and not to expect contact till around 72 hours before flight, I can see above someone flying after us has been called 🤷🏻‍♂️ Have I missed a step or something I should have done? was told this morning via the number above it will be getting looked at and they sent an urgent referral too… I have zero clue what it right anymore!

We hit 10 weeks on Sunday but needed to upgrade on Monday as my son travels on 4th, we’ve heard nothing from the upgrade team as of yet, not sure if they should have at least acknowledged receipt of the request, I’ve seen people saying they have had automated confirmation emails.. will be chasing again Monday once passed 10 weeks and likely heading to the passport office next week.

I mailed my MP a few weeks ago who went to a help desk they have available to them and to be fair they came back with an update in about an hour, didn’t change anything as not at 10 weeks but I think they have ways to speak to them quickly if needed.

Sounds like the same conversation we had with them Friday and similar help too, so thank you for confirming, gives me some comfort you’ve been told the same thing, will keep my fingers crossed all works out for us both

    Hi all,

Just after some advice, we’ve hit 14 days to travel after applying in April, we’ve submitted all the details a few hours ago to the upgrade team at DurhamUpgradeTeam@hmpo.gov.uk but as yet we’ve not had the auto response, I thought there should be an automated message you receive back over email saying they’ll be in touch, is that right, or have I misunderstood, do they only send that once they have looked at your email?

We managed to speak to someone this morning on the progress team, they really didn’t seem sure why it had stepped back via the tracker from processing to docs received, their best guess was that my son’s renewal had finally been moved out of the digital decline path and was now on the right path to be reviewed by an examiner, not sure how accurate that is though or how long it will take, we’re really close to 10 weeks now so we’ll see 🤷🏻‍♂️

Same here, has been in processing for a month, then status has changed back to documents received today, I’m also hoping it means something is happening and it could be moving, however, I feel its more likely they are trying to make timings look better, we sent our old passport which was signed for on 19th April but took them over a month to move it to documents received, the tracking now states 10 weeks they decided to confirm receipt, before I’ll be eligible to upgrade which is passed my holiday date

@Helly87 we’re in exactly the same boat, just stuck, allowed plenty of time, now nearly at 10 weeks. Spoken to them, emailed, used chat and my MP has been in touch with them and nothing has changed, so frustrated with it all, now trying to work out if it is best to upgrade when I hit 10 weeks or wait till 14 days before to make sure I can get the passport in my hand rather than going to central print, 10 weeks for us is about 18 days before we travel.

My son’s renewal is at Durham and seems to be completely stuck in processing, haven’t been asked to confirm identity but have been told by HMPO that it might not be needed as its awaiting an examiner which seems really strange to me as I thought it was a given it had to still be done, given up now trying to speak to anyone to getting help, took them ages to confirm the receipt of the old one, around 4 weeks from being signed for and is now just sat somewhere likely in a pile with all the others that actually require someone to look at them, we have a few weeks left before we hit 10 weeks so just getting ready with trying to sort it out then if I can, thought allowing 12 weeks before travel would have been more than enough time… starting to think I was completely wrong on that one!

My son’s is stuck in processing waiting to be reviewed 7 weeks hits on Sunday, processing for 3, I did have a really generic question though, unlike my renewal which went through the automate route we haven’t been asked to validate his identity yet, will this happen when its picked up by and examiner or is it not needed now as its being reviewed by a person and its a renewal, just starting to worry something has gone wrong with their process which is why its stuck
