    Hi @Rayckarke @Goidlife & @Brussels83
To try and give some hope in this distressing situation, I applied for an overseas application passport renewal (Europe)
    Application submitted 5/5/2022
Signed for in Durham 6/5/2022 (DHL delivery) at a cost of €38.00
    Received by Passport office 1/6/2022
    Application Approved 8/6/2022

What I do know is if all your details and paperwork is correct with no errors including a good photo then all should flow reasonably smoothly however if there is any slight discrepancy then a delay is inevitable, do have patience with the help line, stay calm and say thanks often you will get the necessary help required, good luck to all..

not heard or seen any posts on duplicate ‘old passport received’ but if you are due to fly in 12 days I would make a phone call to to help line to progress your application as you do not have much time to allow for the standard process to approve and send you new passport.

@Juliem60 my passport arrived in Durham on the 6th May, received notification that passport had arrived on 1st June so be prepared to wait a little longer for an update, helpline cannot assist until you have been notified that the docs have been received.

Hi #Caz86 I don’t think you can upgrade if you reside outside of the UK even though Belfast is on the island of Ireland..! If your Son is a UK citizen then you can contact the British embassy in Dublin and they can issue an emergency travel document to enable your Son to travel alternatively contact the passport progress team and explain you need your Son’s passport urgently but cannot avail of the upgrade option as you are outside the UK, I have heard operators will push this request.

Hi, I am in the same situation as yourself, sent old passport from within the EU by DHL, on 5th May signed for in the Durham office on the 6th May still not received by Durham and e-mail asking for old passport to be sent, i called the help line today and was informed no help can be provided until i get mail stating passport received.

Crazy situation, I’m lost for words at this stage, you cannot use fast track service when abroad so its only luck that will get us through this nightmare, i will try calling the help line again next Monday.

OMG… your stress levels must be hitting the roof, you may have to attend your nearest office and wait until
someone is prepared to listen to your situation, totally unacceptable, wish you all the best.

totally agree with upsidedown, shambolic system in place, we all understand the extreme pressure the passport office are under with such a high demand but it cannot be that difficult to separate old passports and documents by the week that they are received by the office and worked through, to not even acknowledge receipt of these items even with proof of signature that they have arrived is a disgrace. I’m approaching 30 days and not any confirmation yet….

thank you todney03 for this update, I was getting concerned with the period of time from when documents were delivered to actually being confirmed as received, this at least for now has given me some relief.

done until the office acknowledge receipt of the documents, very painful experience for a lot of people.

I’m on day 25 old passport still not received Durham ( Time and signature confirmed by DHL) beginning to stress a little now, you hear so many stories
of offices that have lost passports ! have been informed by the advice line that no assistance is available until you get confirmation of docs received.

i think it depends which office your Docs were sent to, passport and Docs go into large bins which overflow, if Docs fall out onto the floor they get put into the bin behind which cause further delays plus the passport office are under pressure to process urgent queries which makes for the standard application to take longer.
