For info I contacted HMPO on Twitter on 03/07/20 stating that it was urgent and that the holiday was booked prior to Covid and asked if there was anything they could do. I received a reply on 09/07/20 saying they had put a note on the application that it was urgent.

On 10/07/2020 i contacted my MP as i saw via this forum that people who applied after me were progressing at a faster rate, they replied instantly and had contacted UKVI who informed them that it was noted as urgent. My MP advised me to call the HMPO help on Tuesday (14/07) this week to request an update, which i did. I very helpful call handler tried several things to escalate the application, however my timeline was just outside of being able to this, so he put in callback request from the processing team (within 48 hours). The time lapsed so I gave the helpline a call yesterday (I knew they were busy and i wasn’t expecting a callback in 48 hours but thought why not) and a rude and abrupt call handler answered who basically refused to help me.

I therefore contacted HMPO via Twitter again basically detailing how rude the call handler was and also informed my MP who had requested an update. Next thing I know it was processed and approved. I spoke to my MP today who said they had contact UKVI after my email yesterday for an update as I was not having any luck. Maybe i was lucky having a rude call handler which forced me to complain?!?

All in all HMPO were great (aside from the call handler yesterday), they are dealing with so many people, who like me are probably right pains in the arse chasing for updates. If you want you application to progress I would suggest regular contact in a polite manner (within the timeframes they suggest unless really urgent) as there is no logic to processing times – a call handler pretty much told me it was luck of the draw where you applications sits, especially in terms of documents being logged as received!

Good luck everyone. I’ll update when i receive the passport.

@newgirl have you got in contact with your MP? I emailed mine on friday and they responded very quickly saying they had been in touch with the Visa and Immigration service with regards to my application and to update them later this week. They noted that it was urgent for me.

We are due to travel on 1 August and submitted our daughters renewal to 1 July, it went to Durham. From what i have found on this forum, there is no logic to applications, it is purely luck as one child renewal (sent to Liverpool) turned round in 1 week.

I have a call back request from the processing team, a helpful guy at the call centre arranged this for me as he couldn’t track everything, it will be within 48 hours apparently – if you haven’t spoke to this team try getting through to them. I’ll update when i hear from them.

    Good luck!!

Hi all just a quick update on my daughters renewal which was signed for at the Durham office on Thursday 2 July, it is still yet to be acknowledged on the system. I am due to travel on 1 August.

I DM’d HMPO on 3 July with our travel date and theY replied on 8 July saying they had added a note to the application. I emailed our MP yesterday who replied straight away saying they had escalated the situation and to contact them next week if no progress. So hopefully some positive updates soon. Both wet helpful.

I did everything a bit early but thought I’d do as much as I can not knowing how long it would take HMPO or my MP to reply.

Have found this forum really useful so thank you all.

As for the person who said stay local, we booked our holiday last year, were in complete isolation during lockdown, my wife didn’t see our kids for 4 weeks because of her job so think we are entitled to a holiday. We will be self contained in a villa and I’d rather that than stay local where idiots have little respect for social distancing or the UKs beautiful coastline by dumping rubbish everywhere which poses additional risks!

I have just had a reply on twitter (i messaged them last thursday) saying they are taking longer to process the post and link to an application, i’m tempted to reply ask why some are only taking a matter of days whereas some are taking weeks!

@iwasworried i’d be interested to hear how you get on with your child renewal as i am on the same timeline as you. although my childs passport was signed for on 2 july it still isn’t displaying on the system as received.

@pipine. I agree. I don’t see how they can say only to apply for a passport if you are a government worker or it is needed for compassionate grounds when they open up air bridges. Apparently travel before September has been added but they are not taking departure dates so how do they know this.

For our daughters renewal it was a huge oversight on our part, however for a government agency I would expect their systems to be much better than they are for processing etc.

@Pipine does your departure date appear on your online application or did they just tell you over Twitter that it has been noted? Thanks.

@charlie2566 we are flying to Spain on 1 August and are a few days behind you with our daughters renewal, docs received 2 July so please let me know how you progress. Think adult renewals are a bit quicker but would be good to know

@claireldavis Did you chase HMPO at. Your application has flown through in comparison to others. We are on a tight deadline too!

@LauraW have you phoned or tweeted HMPO? From looking at your timeline it appears as though there are others on here who submitted after you and are at a more advanced stage, there isn’t any logic to the system. I read somewhere that a note referencing their departure date had been added to their application which may speed things up
